MOV Video Stutters when played on TV

Hello Everyone,

I have posted about this long ago but my issue has not been resolved so I decided to revisit it. I'm not sure where the problem resides - my PC, my TV, Serviio or my settings. I have a Nikon DSLR that shoots videos in MOV format. My TV is a Panasonic Plasma. I view video and pictures on my TV using Serviio through a Play Station 3.

Many times I am unable to view the MOV videos on my TV. Many times the videos playback stutter badly and the audio and video is way out of sync. My camera saves the audio as Linear PCM.

I recently discovered that I can see real time file data on the PS3. When I enable this the info bar tells me "2ch 48kHz 209kbps MPEG2 XXX-Mbps". I noticed that when the MPEG2 rate rises above ~60.0 Mbps, the audio/video stutters and becomes out of sync. I've seen it go as high ass 110Mbps I've included a picture of the info bar below. . I'm not sure what the source of this problem is: Is my PC/processor not powerful enough (Intel I-7 3rd Gen)? Is it a limitation of the PS3? Is it my TV? Also, it seems that the PS3 does not like videos shot at 30FPS (?!), so I must shoot at 60FPS. I'm not sure why that is and, again, I'm not sure if the issue is the TV or the PS3 or Serviio...

In an ironic twist, I can use my Nikon software to convert the video to H264/AAC MP4 file. That creates a video that doesn't stutter but the audio and video are out of sync. Go figure.

In the past have been given advice to edit the Serviio transcoding settings to limit certain bit rates in for the PS3. Will that help in this situation?

Another odd thing for me is that all my MOV files show a thumbnail Icon from a movie that says "DschungleKind" - which seems to be some German movie (trnaslates to Jungle Child). I've searched my computer and there is no such movie or video. Why do all my MOV files get this particular thumbnail? It makes no sense to me? Ive also posted an example image of this as well.

Any ideas on these issues? To be honest, I'm kinda longing for the days where it was as simple of putting a VHS cassette into a player...

Thanks to all who reply.

My guess is your TV only has a Fast Ethernet connection (100 Mbps) and can't keep up with the higher stream speeds. My Roku players are also only Fast Ethernet, and they can begin having issues with bitrates going above 60-70 Mbps. If your TV has WiFi, especially if it supports 5 GHz via 802.11N or AC, you might have better luck with a wireless connection. Of course, if your wired home network is only Fast Ethernet, then faster WiFi won't make any difference, since the wired side has to support faster speeds as well.

That's s good suggestion but that doesn't seem to be the case. My routers are all pretty new (less than 1year) and my entire network is gigabit. My PS3 is hard wired to my router. I did, however, double check the connection and manually set it to 1000Mbps Full Duplex just to be certain. I also checked the cable to make sure it was a CAT5e. I though that perhaps the wrong cable may have been limiting the speed to 100Mbps. The network speed seems good, as far as I can tell.

Taking your suggestion further, I wondered if there was not enough bandwidth due to all the devices on the network. My router allows for prioritization of bandwidth so I put the PS3 at the highest priority. Unfortunately, that didn't work either.

Thanks for the suggestion, it's a good one.
