why no longer able to control subtitles and audio track

When I first got Serviio some years ago I could always control selection of subtitles when available or audio track when there were multiple languages. When there were choices of these the subtitle or audio option was highlighted and I could choose what I wanted. At some point in the last couple years, these stopped working. With subtitles they would sometimes work on their own or not, but I had no control over them. I do have the subtitles enabled as an option. Those 2 choices are never highlighted any more. I have both an LG and Samsung tv and the problem is the same on both. I wonder if anyone else has this problem and is there an explanation or solution. Could it be connected to an update?
