How can I get Serviio to recognize recorded video files?

Hello,

I have been using Serviio for a number of years now. As time goes by, I have accumulated many video files through recording via a PVR program. These recorded files are all in .mpg format. For the last few years an increasing number of files recorded using this program are not recognized by Serviio. This is frustrating, as I want to watch these videos. On some days there have been as many as five or six files not showing up in Serviio. This adds up to over a hundred unrecognized files.

I include the ffmpeg information for the most recent unrecognized file.

What can I do to get this (and any other unrecognized files) to be recognized by Serviio?

Well, there's a problem with the info you posted. Look at the bottom. It says "Output file #0 does not contain any stream". That means FFMPEG couldn't find any audio, video or caption track within the container. That's not a playable file.

What version of Serviio are you running?

My version is 2.1. I can play this file on the computer monitor. But, I don't need Serviio to do that. I use Serviio to watch such recorded .mpg files on the big screen tv, via my BluRay player, which recognizes Serviio. I have encountered this problem for at least a few years, which means that previous versions of Serviio had this same occasional problem.

Here is another .mpg file which was not recognized by Serviio. I will follow this with another recording of this exact program, which was recorded three and a half days later and was recognized by Serviio.

With all the errors FFMPEG is reporting, I'm surprised anything can play them. I'm not certain what you're using to record the shows, but I believe it's not working correctly. I record off the air constantly with J River Media Center and a networked Silicon Dust multi-tuner box. Before I got the HDHomeRun I used a single tuner card in my PC. J River saves the recorded shows in the TS container, not MPG, but it still has MPEG-2 video and AC3 audio, just like yours.

I really don't think you have a Serviio problem. I believe it's either the hardware (tuner) or software being used for OTA recording that isn't working correctly. There's simply far too many errors in that FFMPEG report. It's even commenting about DTS, even though the audio stream is listed as AC3. I don't know if that DTS stands for something other than an audio codec, as I've never seen data like that before.

I use Total Media 3.5, by ArcSoft as the recording program. I use the WinTV-HVR-1265 internal HDTV card for the tuner. I am not thrilled that ArcSoft has not updated Total Media in years. I like it, because it allows me to set recording times down to the minute. I have tried WinTV 8, but that doesn't allow the exact-to-the-minute times. My computer is running Windows 8.1. I will look at J River Media Center.

I have a 1255 video tuner in my HTPC, but I stopped using it when I added the HDHomeRun on my network. Hauppauge makes good equipment, but there were times I was limited with only a single tuner.
