Hi all @serviio forums,
please forgive my noobyness, I was looking for an alternative to WMP 12 (which seldom doesn't work as expected, expecially the "play to.." feature) to set up a DLNA server in order to see some videos on my brand new TV

I installed Serviio under win 7 64bit but I'm having some configuration difficulties in configuration... I hope you could help me on this task; please be patient as I'm completely new to DLNA/UPNP world :oops:

First of all; I tried times ago to setup sharing options in WMP in order to use it as media server in my DLNA network. Actually I can browse multimedia contents from my Toshy tv and for sure, it's because of WMP sharing setup.
So far, so good.
I'd like to turn WMP off and use serviio instead . :mrgreen:

In order to turn WMP off as media server I did the following:
1) WMP -> Stream -> Allow internet access to home media -> select "Do not allow Internet access to home media"
2) WMP -> Stream -> Allow remote control of my Player -> select "Do not allow remote control on this network" (probably, not useful in this context)
3) WMP -> Stream -> Automatically allow devices to play my media -> select "Do not automatically allow computers and media devices"
4) Under Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> HomeGroup, I set "Stream my pictures, music, and videos to all devices on my home network" to blank (unchecked).

furthermore, under Stream -> "More streaming options" menù I found my TV (Toshiba-Regza) and choose to turn sharing to "Blocked".

With these Windows and WMP settings, the Toshy Regza media player lets me select my machine as active device but when I select it, a message pops up on my tv screen: "Can't connect to device".

On the serviio side:
- Server status is currently "Running", in green;
- In the Renderer Profile section, my tv (46WL863) is correctly shown with its IP address; I switched from "Generic DLNA profile" to "Toshiba regza". Green light for the entry.
- Library updated with paths which point to different locations w.r.t. WMP; that in order to understand which media server I'm connecting to from my tv :-P

I'm probably missing something... setting the above mentioned settings back to previous values I get a working configuration, as I can select my laptop from Toshiba's media player and get a full video/photo/music library.... which is the one offered by WMP! :evil:

In other words... on my laptop it seems Serviio is fine and running, but from my hdtv I can only see WMP media server contents.

ANY help is really appreciated, thanks in advance.

Did it, but after that, once I lauch the media player on my Toshy, then my laptop appears as greyed out (not available) even though serviio is running. I'm definitely missing something :cry:

My device doesn't see Serviio

This could be caused by you having multiple IP addresses on the machine and Serviio binding to a wrong one. Insert IP address of the machine running Serviio into 'Bound IP address' field in Network Settings section in the console or pass system variable serviio.boundAddr including the IP address when starting the server.

Also make sure that TCP port 8895 and UDP 1900 are open in your firewall.

I did as cited from the wiki as effectively, I also have installed Hamachi which has its own assigned ip (virtual device). Nothing solved.
I then checked Windows Firewall in which by default I have 3 rows for the application "Serviio":
- first one: opens port 23423 (TCP);
- second one: authorizes ServiioService.exe to run thru the firewall;
- third one: authorizes ServiioConsole.exe to run thru the firewall.
There options are active by default only for Public networks.

I extended the above rules (created by the Windows installer, for sure) to the home network and that did the job.

Finally my Toshiba device sees Serviio

Got another issue then, as probably I'm missing something on the transcode feature. I just downloaded a music video (AVI) to test serviio with my regza. I found the file browsing from my pc, but when i presso on Play I get a "Media Playback error" and can't see anything. How should I adjust settings in order to perform transcoding in case of non-supported format?
I enabled transcoding from serviio console so can't understand what's the prob.

EDIT: I'm using TOSHIBA-REGZA profile, even if Serviio did not automatically assign it to my TV.
Just found a thread in which you suggest to retrieve information on the specific device following this guide: http://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=device_sf
I'll do that as soon as I'll come back home from work and post the result

ok looking at that the regza profile should work but then that profile hasnt been worked on in ages, hopefully one of the profile makes here can look at it for you

added info for this device to wiki, it has AVC support but not MP4 support which sucks, ah well will look at this later.

EDIT: ok looking at the REGZA profile and that should make your files play on your device as the device has very very limited support. ( you will also have to manually select it for your device in console as its not auto detected)

Video: mpeg, mpegPS, mpegTS
Audio: lpcm, mp3
images: jpg

please also post a FFmpeg -i result for the file that will not play.

Well, it sucks a lot as this *should* be almost a flagship model for Toshiba (released at end of 2011), only Z* models are better (and pricey).

yer toshiba and LG dont really seem to have bothered with DLNA, they give you the most basic support they can unlike sony and samsung who have excellent support.

ok the file u posted should play fine, it will be transcoded to mpeg2 and AC3 audio inside a mpeg file, so im not sure why it doesnt play maybe illico or zip can take a look, as they are more experienced at profiles than i am.

You can try the directTV DVR profile since it transcodes everything, to make sure everything work. this will also allow you to use serviio as we tweak your profile.

Can you attach your serviio.log file.

profile is fine moltra, and directv profile wont help as in doesnt transcode to format tosh likes.

well, don't ask me why. Yesterday evening the tv didn't see serviio at all :evil:

even though settings were correct on both sides (tv as renderer - laptop as server using serviio).

I just retried and... it works :twisted:

, because I did not change the profile I use (Toshiba-Regza) so there's apparently no reason for this behaviour.

However, actually serviio and my WL863 seems to cooperate well together

, so it's time to ask for some further info:
- being the WL863 a recent model here in Italy, would you think that DLNA support could be influenced/modified by a firmware update? I ask because I have this tv from 2 months now and already got 2 FOTA update.
- being stucked on the fact the TV has a limited, basilar DLNA support... What does implies on my side? I mean, the transcode feature of serviio can allow me to play almost everything ( I have a recent laptop so computational issues should be a minor problem) or there's something I will not be able to play due to limited support on the renderer side?
- did not understand if Toshiba-Regza profile covers exactly my TV's features or if there's something I can do/add on that basis profile to match completely TV capabilities.

The profile match's your TVs requirement, so no editing is required. It is possible that firmware updates will add new feature but it is highly unlikely, the only thing you can do is take a sink report after each update and compare it to the Toshiba TV sink info i have in the wiki and if it is different let me know so i can see if its an important change or not.

you should be able to play everything with current profile, but very obscure files may not play but we can work on them if they appear.

Well mates, don't get me wrong but actually I'm not able to see anything on my Tosh WL863 as every video file from Serviio returns me a "Playback media error" from the tv.
I did not change anything from the configuration we reached months ago; moreover, I cannot see the test.avi file we worked on trying to setup the profile. Transcoding is turned on so I really cannot get the problem :evil:

Every file has 00:00:00 as duration from the media player of toshiba, don't know if this could help identifying the issue.
Device Spy for my device has been attached some post ago, should I redo it? Maybe a firmware update on my tv could be the source of the problem? Tried also to switch to the new Serviio (as I was on 0.6.x) but nothing changed.

EDIT: just checked from device spy, supported formats are not changed. Also the test video is not changed, so I don't know what's going wrong.

Hi zip, yes, i'm using Toshiba profile and... of course, I'd post the logs if I only knew how/where to get them... Is there a wiki page that could help me finding logfiles to post?

Ok, in debug mode , logfile is getting really huge so I did as follows:
- turned off serviio service;
- turned off the console;
- deleted the logfile;
- then I restarted the system (I'm using Win 7 pro 64 bit and serviio is configured as startup service at boot);

I then simply performed the following sequence:
- access media section on my toshiba;
- selected Films/video;
- selected my serviio platform as source;
- browse directories in order to get the ones which contains video files;
- tried to see a file (in this case, a music video clip):
- get the "Media Playback Error" from my Toshy.

Then i looked into the logfiles, and these are the last lines:

EDIT: Hello zip, I sorted it out, after the upgrade to Serviio 1.0.1 the device switched automatically to generic DLNA profile, so that no Transcoding could be done. Thank you so much for your support
