i came form ps3 media server as it kept messing up and i got fed up so installed serviio , am very happy with it but it is using far too much resources .
it is causing the cursor on my laptop to stutter and i have 4gb of ram so i find it amazing it can do that .
i know it is serviio as i have seen it in task manager and before i installed my laptop was fine .
what settings can i alter to prevent it using so much resources ?
thanks dan

is it still adding stuff you your library? check the log. It should not cause anywhere near this kind of CPU usage.

I can sometimes see the same thing. Right now I can see that the "first" of the two Serviio processes use about 75% of CPU!!!...and that is after halting the server in console. It use about the same when server running, mind you not always. Will try to figure out when this happens. I run win 8.
Cheers.

I have played around a bit with this problem. It seems that this happens after streaming SOPCAST using 127.0.0.1:8992 as streaming ulr. After using this stream it seams that Serviio keeps using all available CPU resources. Only way to end this is to kill the Serviio process in TM.

Im seeing the same problem after streaming any of the live video streams noted in the RSS feeds post in Video Streams section.
As soon as i start streaming live video (using the livefeeds.groovy plugin), my cpu is at 100% utilisation.
When stopping the stream, the cpu stays at 100%.
Only by killing the serviio service does the cpu drop down to normal levels.

That's because the stream is possibly transcoded, not just remuxed. The process should stop after a while after stopping the stream however.

Yes thats the problem though, the process isnt stopping after stopping viewing the stream.
When i first realised what the problem was with my PC cpu usage it was a good 3 hours afterwards that I had to manually stop the service in task manager.

Some update on this issue:
It happens some times not every time that Serviio.exe keeps using all available cpu resources even after stopping the client in TV (Samsung D5000). Seems more of a problem after viewing a stream from 127.0.0.1...that is watching a SOPCAST channel from PC (no plugin involved).
I use win 8 and wlan.
Cheers

I'm having the same problem.
It uses up to 100% of my CPU when i finish watching a live stream either from the RSS folders created or direct live stream.
It only uses 1% of CPU when it is playing but then climbs to 35% to max when I turn it off and then wont play any other stream, even turned Tv off and that didnt help.
Have to manually stop the Server for it too stop using the CPU.
Have Panasonic TV and use Viera profile.
Some help with this problem wont be greatly appreciated. It happens all the time I play live streams.
Cheers

tthe live streams from the live streams groovy package were rtsp's for a while, I think they're back to rtmp and therefore possible to remux - so should take less CPU.

Just tested again.
As soon as the live stream starts playing the CPU usage jumps from well under 10% to 60-70%.
When the live stream is stopped, the cpu is dropping to a minimum of 55% and still jumping upto 75%.
I stopped the live stream 10mins ago and the CPU is still the same.
I was watching the BBC HD in SD from the TV rss.

No, although I dont see ffmpeg.exe in either the processes or services tab in task manager at any time during the streaming.
Obly stopping the serviio service seems to bring the cpu usage back to normal levels.

can you post
detailed log of when you stream the file and see the high cpu?

Strange!
I just enabled the debug logging, viewed a few streams (although all were freezing and virtually unwatchable), went back to my PC and the CPU usage had returned to normal!
Thats the first time that I have used it and it hasnt stayed at 100% utilisation.

Hi,
It seems that this problem has gone a bit worse in the 1.0.1 version. On my win 7 the serviio services will use up all free cpu up to 100%, only way to stop this is to kill the service in TM. This seems to happen no matter if I try to watch a stream or not, after restarting the PC the serviio service will use cpu up to 100% after about 45 minutes. In earlier versions this happened after watching some streams on the Samsung d- series TV. Activating debug mode makes no difference.
Anybody else come across this problem?
Cheers

What version of Java are you using,? I wonder if this makes a difference? 32bit or 64bit?
