Minimum Spec Query

Folks, first time here as a newbie.. really appreciate a little advice before I take the plunge..
Got myself a little file server PIII 1Ghz Ubuntu Server with 256 RAM.

Currently running MediaTomb and everything is just peachy, but a new Samsung TV arrived today & although it sees all my video & music collection it keeps giving me some crappy message "Supported file not" even though its only a mp3. After some googling it apears Serviio may be the way to go, love the forum support it appears to have BUT and heres the question, does my little server have enough UMPHHHHH ???

Thank You
John

Re: Minimum Spec Query

From my point of view, it's too slight.
To stream in native format, its OK, for SD transcoding that could be OK, but for HD transcoding, it 's too low.
Java serviio service use 512MB max (-Xmx512m) (I use a 1.6GHz, 1Go RAM)
You can have a look at NAS forum topics for examples.

Re: Minimum Spec Query

you can lower the Xmx parameter to 128m, but you will probably run out of memory is you share large images (eg 10Mpix and above). If you only need to stream native files, you should be ok.
