Installing servio 1.0.1 on WHS v1

I am totally new to servio and have failed to find information on how to install servio (latest version 1.0.1) on my WHS v1.
I find lot of information on how to do for version 0.6.1 but not later versions. I have not installed servio before on the WHS.

What is the recommended way to install servio 1.0.1 and later on a WHS v1?
Please give simple instructions.

Is this WHS Add-In functionality needed and will it be supported in the future?

Best Regards

The WHS plugin isn't essential, it just means you can manage serviio without the need to remote into the server.

As far as installing a more up todate version goes, again you'll need to use remote desktop connection to do so, you'll find it on pretty much any windows install somewhere in the start menu (either accessories or system tools if my memory serves me right), feed that your whs boxed server name or iP, you'll need to log in as administrator and use the server's master password that you use for the whs console when it asks for login details. This will then give you a simulated desktop from your whs box that you can use to install serviio as if it was on a normal pc.

A couple of things to note: if you have a multi core CPU, be sure to set the number of threads. It's also worth moving the transcode folder onto the D: drive if you are playing particularly large files (like 5gb or more).

Hope that helps!

Just saw this question while browsing for answers to my "The X-Files" metadata woes...

Emilia, if you haven't gone ahead anyway, I use Serviio with the WHS add-in on both WHS 1.0 & 2011. Best way I've found to run Serviio 1.01 with the add-ins is to:

1. Install the add-in per the author's instructions on codeplex.com
2. Use the add-in (once available in WHS dashboard/console) to install Serviio 6.01
3. RDP into your WHS server directly as Seb has suggested, download and install Serviio 1.01 overtop (same folder) of 6.01

Choose to use either the add-in OR Serviio Console to manage. On my servers, changes made in the add-in, eg. Presentation settings, don't reflect in the Console.

Best of luck.

The plugin (for 0.6.x) will not work proerly with 1.0.x server and you might lose some data and bring the server into an unstable state. So I would not recommend it.

Ahh, that will explain why my HP X510 MediaServer/DataVault - downgraded back to its native WHS 1.0 last weekend - keeps on vanishing after a few reboots with 1.01. When running WHS 2011, it and my other server were stable with 1.01 and the 2011 wss plugin.

Have downgraded to 0.6.2 tonight - all good. Thanks for the tip, Petr.
