I am trying to have serviio transcode my mkv files so I can watch them on my 360, but it isn't working. I keep getting a message stating that the file type isn't supported. Transcoding is enabled and the devices profile is set. Is there something else I have to enable?

Are you on Linux? If yes, make sure you have the latest FFMpeg. Also make sure the XBox profile is selected. If none of this applies, post your log.

dont know if its relevant, but for another non dlna client server process on windows server , mkv playback on xbox requires.
1. no subtitle track.
2. ac3 filter 1.63b...newer dont work for dts
3. no header stripping on video or audio stream.
4. certain h264 profiles and ref frames will challenge xbox.
5. Divx 7 latest version with media foundation support for mkv.

not all apply as serviio is in middle, but it might help testing.
