Console doesn't launch

Hi,

I am running Serviio on a Synology NAS with the console on Windows 7. Immediately after the initial install I was able to setup Serviio via the console although sometimes it failed to launch. I was also able to see Serviio as a media server on my WD box and Serviio found my music and video files. I now find that nothing is working.

The console won't launch. The Windows process is running but there is no icon on the taskbar. I have reinstalled the console and Java with no success. I am now back to Java 6 update 37.

The console log reports:

2012-12-05 21:45:31,890 INFO [ServiioConsole] Starting Serviio Console
2012-12-05 21:45:32,012 INFO [ServiioConsole] Connecting to Serviio REST on 192.168.0.4:23423

I can no longer see Serviio from my WD box and I can't sign on to Media Browser - it now doesn't even resolve the url.

The server still seems to be active e.g. there is a recent log entry:

2012-12-05 21:51:46,227 INFO [PluginCompilerThread] Added Web Resouce plugin 4OD (UK only) (Channel4od.groovy)

However, it doesn't show any sign that the console has been run and doesn't update the logs for a stop and restart. The Synology CPU and RAM usage are normal.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom

It's possible the server's pool of http connections is exhausted (might happen, seems a bug in FlowPlayer). Try to restart the server.

Petr,

Thank you for your suggestion and prompt reponse. I have stopped and restarted the server and also rebooted the NAS.

I will try once more this evening.

Hi,

I shutdown and restarted the server and tried again to access via the console. After several minutes a message box appeared stating "Cannot connect to Serviio server, it does not appear to be running. Exiting..."

I checked on the server and it is running. I switched on detailed logging but nothing odd shows up in the Serviio.log file. The ServiioConsole.exe.vmoptions file contains -Dserviio.remoteHost=192.168.0.4 which is the correct IP address. I tried the Web UI but it also doesn't find the server.

The console log shows:

2012-12-06 22:03:33,851 INFO [ServiioConsole] Starting Serviio Console
2012-12-06 22:03:33,960 INFO [ServiioConsole] Connecting to Serviio REST on 192.168.0.4:23423
2012-12-06 22:07:12,927 WARN [ServiioConsole] Cannot connect to the server to get DB initialization info
2012-12-06 22:08:13,663 WARN [ServiioConsole] Cannot connect to server: Communication Error (1001) - Read timed out
2012-12-06 22:08:13,668 INFO [Messages] Loaded console message bundle for locale: en

I am not certain what to try next. How do I get the console to find the server?

Can you open this in a brwoser on the PC where the Console is?

  Code:

Returns:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
-<application>
<version>1.0.1</version>
<edition>PRO</edition>
-<license>
<type>EVALUATION</type>
<expiresInMinutes>16042</expiresInMinutes>
</license>
</application>

Interestingly this time the Console launched. I will leave it running for a while. I don't know what changed except that I shut down but the NAS box and PC last night.

My next problem is that the response time from the Media Browser is measured in minutes. My WD box finds Serviio as a media server but the response time is also poor and it fails after a couple of minutes stating that the content source has been removed. I haven't got beyond the initial menu. This is over a wired network. NAS CPU is under 20% although RAM is at 80%. I''ve switched on detailed logging and will search the forums.

Thank you for your help.

Tom

I have the same problem on Windows 8 x64.
The programs installs, starts after the first reboot and no longer starts after following reboots. Sometimes it randomly starts the next day(!)
Both x32 and x64 Javas installed. I try to manually start the server before starting the console - does not help.

The problem is the same - does the developer have to say anything about the problem? Removed the program, reinstalled, worked for one day and then jumped back to non-working condition with the same message.

Either the server doesn't start (check the log), or the console starts before the server starts. you can try to remove the console from the Startup menu, so that it doesn't start on boot and run it manually only when you need it

This service seems like a great add-on, but nothing about the whole process seems to work - even finding help. User Wikis are completely pointless, and there is no support for what I would think would be a pretty common problem.

Anyway, I'm having the same problem, and I've attempted the solution above. When I try to launch the .bat files manually, a window flashes open and closed. Then the console will not open. I don't even get an error - simply nothing happens. The system doesn't lag or hang.
