Devices can't see Serviio without a restart

For a while now, some of my devices cannot connect to Serviio until I restart it. I either need to login to my Linux box and restart the service, or stop and start it from the ServiiDroid app. This has happened with both 1.0 and 1.1, and a full re-install (uninstall, remove all data from /usr/share/java/serviio, re-install) did not fix the issue.

I've had this problem with the following DLNA clients:

VPlayer (Android)
UPnPlay (Android)
Sony BDP-S580
XBMC

AirPlayer (iOS) does not seem to be affected, for some reason.

Additionally, it takes some DLNA clients that I use 60 seconds or so to see my Serviio source upon starting the client.

Has anyone else experienced either issue?

Re: Devices can't see Serviio without a restart

If you are changing between wired and wireless, or doing something so that the MAC address of the server changes, you will lose the connection. When experimenting with my laptop between wired and wireless connections, I have to wipe the dlna profiles from the dvd-dlna player via a reset and then let the dvd player find the new mac addresses on the serviio device on power up.

Re: Devices can't see Serviio without a restart

The devices that are having issues are all on a wireless connection, and none of them have changed MAC addresses. When any of the affected devices does not try to play anything from Serviio for an extended period of time (a couple of hours or more), then the Serviio icon disappears from their list of available sources, and only shows up again if the Serviio service is restarted.

Re: Devices can't see Serviio without a restart

I'm just mentioning things to consider ...

Wireless is less stable than wired for the serviio server. My wireless starts at 2.4GHz and passes off to a 5GHz wireless bridge at the media end. If everything were at 2.4GHz I would be pessimistic about the results.

I'm assuming the serviio server is on

Is serviio configured to see your invisible device with the correct profile

Could there be an issue with your dlna player

Does your server have a proper configuration regarding processor and ram

Do you have a plugin library installed

My sony blu-ray dlna dvd is rock solid.

2.4GHz only, it's a B/G wireless router

Yes, of course.

Not sure what you mean by "invisible device". It shows up as a Generic profile though.

Could there be an issue with your dlna player

Doubtful, unless things are wrong with my tablet, raspberry pi, and blu-ray player, since all of these are affected.

Generic profile might e a problem. try using a sony related one.

Just checked, and the Sony profile was already set for my blu-ray player. And it's one of the devices having trouble. So that doesn't seem to be the issue.

Would setting the profile to a Sony profile be the best thing to do for the Android and XBMC DLNA clients? Somehow I doubt this.
