Hi,
Updated to Serviio 1.2 the other day, can't really open Serviio at all now. Can't even start the service. Using Windows 7...

I've tried to uninstall, and then re-install Serviio 1.2. Didn't work.
I've tried to uninstall, and then re-install Serviio 1.1. Didn't work.

What to do now? When I open the Serviio console, it doesnt start. No error message and no logs are created. Got any tips?

Well, ye. Got 32-bits Windows 7, so has nothing to do with 64 bits installation.
I've tried both Java 6 and Java 7.

And, I made a log from "/create-i4g-log"

Which version? Java6 (as recommended on your website) or Java7?

Huh, worked like a charm. Thanks. :)
But, how can java get fucked up when I updated to Serviio 1.2?

I was having issues until i uninstalled all java version and went to the site

http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

and downloaded the one i needed.

I think for some reason the web installer of java does not install it properly.

Hope this helps someone.

Well, I installed the "default" recommended Java from the serviio installations (java 6). After a while I updated java.. And woopz, back to the same problem.

I uninstalled Java and installed Java 7 from their website and it started to work again. Amazing. :)

I have had issues in the past when updating Serviio or Java (mainly Java).

If I just run the Java 64-bit installer on my PC, on rebooting I get errors and Serviio fails to start up. I then have to reinstall Java 64-bit again and it works after another reboot. It seems the best policy when updating Java is to close the Serviio console and stop the service. Then install the Java update, and reboot. It seems Serviio "locks" some of the Java files, but the Java updater does not realise.

With the last Serviio update I also had problems. I installed it and the Serviio console did not start up. The Serviio service was running as ServiDroid could see it. When I looked into it, the Serviio entry in Start Up menu was there, but the short cut was actually missing! I then checked the bin folder for Serviio and there were files in it with corrupted and invalid names (foreign characters and symbols). I removed Serviio completely (which actually crashed the uninstaller) and did a manual clean up and reinstalled it. It has been fine ever since.

Upgrade to 1.1 from 1.0: Java screws up; Serviio Server refuses to start. Take an hour of Java/Serviio reinstalls and reboots to fix on a 2008 R2 server.
Upgrade to 1.2 from 1.1: Java screws up; Serviio Server refuses to start. Take an hour of Java/Serviio reinstalls and reboots to fix.

Can you guys get this sorted before 1.3? It's getting pretty annoying and making me gun-shy about updating. I'm a paying Pro customer by the way.

it's strange how some people have this issue and some don't. I have three serviio instances on my network and they all upgrade without issue. (well maybe some profile tweaking is required.. but no issues with java itself)

question - do you have java automatic updating enabled?

I have Java set to autoupdate. I was on 7 17 before and after the update. It's update serviio -> serviio doesn't work. Reboot and Serviio still doesn't work. I removed java, reinstalled java (without rebooting) and that didn't work. I then removed Java and Serviio, rebooted, installed Java 7, rebooted, installed serviio, rebooted and then the service came back on. I had to rebuild my library and reset all my settings. In hindsight, I should have maybe rebooted after pulling Java off the first time. I couldn't remember what steps I took during the last update.

I was also using a Domain Admin level account to do the Serviio update.

I didn't have any problems before Serviio 1.0.1, but I've disabled Java AutoUpdate to avoid these problems. Everytime I update serviio, I have to uninstall Java, install serviio and then install the newest Java version.
