WDTV / MacOS 10.8.3 / Serviio 1.2... Still Having Problems

UPDATE: 13/04/20 Working better with new JAVA release but still having problems...

See recent post. Thanks, SDK

Hi all,

Serviio plugins stopped working (for me) in the last 2 betas of MacOS 10.8.3 and Serviio has stopped working completely in beta 12D76.

I have had non-stop, solid, operation of Serviio on this computer/network for many months and now nothing

Can anyone with more experience or knowledge offer an idea how I could get it working again ?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your interest Zip.
1.1 was working well w/ plugins and then I upgraded to 1.2 at the beginning of March.
It continued to work well serving movie folders to my WDTV but I had lost all online player ability (.rss feeds and plugins) (using osx 10.8.3 Build 12D68)
It did contact the web resource pages and showed folders on my WDTV but I continued to get the " There is no media in the current folder" message.
I recently upgraded to osx 10.8.3 Build 12D76 and decided to reload Serviio 1.2 from scratch hoping to solve the plugins problem.

What version of Java do you have? Can you post detailed log?

Running Java Version 7 Update 17 Build 1.7.0_17-b02

After running for 24 hours, Serviio console app came up quicker than last night.

Still does not recognize my WDTV but Serviio server app still serving videos, no problem.

I have not tried to add any plugins or .rss feeds.

Clicked to refresh server profiles and Console App froze again.

from the log you're running 1.6.0_43 Java. I'm not even sure if Serviio works with Java 7 on OSX. This is probably due to the JavaStub executable, bundled with Serviio, looking for java at the original file path where Apple used to store them, not where the new 1.7 from Oracle is stored now.

Some errors in the log will be fixed in 1.2.1, but it's got nothing to do with you problem. What if you uninstall Java 7 from your system and keep only the latest 1.6 from Apple?

Update:
Regressed Java did not change anything, reupdated back to 7-17.
Updated system to 10.8.3 official release and Apple seems to have turned on some things that were inactivated during beta.

I let Serviio console run overnight and the window was finally open this morning.
It has finally found my Mac and it still found my WD Live as an unrecognized device.
Videos still serve with no problems. I deleted all Groovy files and have given up on plugins .rss and web resources for the time being :-(
I still do not have a clue what is causing the problems with the Console App.

I'm still having problems with the console window not coming up. It is impossible to update my library with the time I have to wait for the window to appear.... :-(

So to make it clear, is this correct?

- everything works when you remove all groovy plugins
- once you copy the plugins in, you cannot open the console and are experiencing other issues

If this is correct, do not copy all the plugins in, they might take memory, thus slowing everything down. Try it with a single plugin and try to make it work. Then keep adding only the plugins you need.

Thanks Zip,
Part of the problem is definitely plugins.

Sorry, don't understand. Can you confirm if it all works as it should (incl console) if you don't use any plugins?

The only symptom that stops when I remove the plugins is the freezing of Console.
It is still taking time (varies... 5 minutes to 1 hour) for the Console window to appear.
And, even though I have perfect video serving to my WDTV (thank goodness),
the console window does not recognize my WDTV and my Mac (server) does not show until 24 hours or more after I change any settings.

However, (13/04/20) I still have to hard quit Serviio when I shut down... Will add new post RE: this problem. 13/04/20

ok. enable detailed log, start the Mac, start the server and console and once the console starts up, stop everything and post the log. Do this without any plugins present.
Also make note of time when you started the console and when it actually appeared.

Will do. Thanks
Update:
This is going to be harder than I thought...
It took 33 minutes for Serviio Console to come up.

you can try to stop your serviio server, install it again into a different folder and start the new instance. Don't add any folders, just try to start the console- that should limit the logs to minimum

Hi Zip,

Thanks for the reply.

Been busy w/ work.

UPDATE: As of 13/04/20

I have Serviio working (including plugins) after the recent JAVA update.

However, I still have to hard quit Serviio to shut down any of my Macs, and, the Serviio Icon still shows in the dock intermittently.

When it disappears, I have to go into Activity Monitor to force quit. All my computers run 24 hours a day so that is not too much of a problem for me.

My clients however, shut down and start up daily. They are not all computer savvy. This bug will continue to be a problem for them.

I am also facing another problem now to having plugins working... It may need to be restarted as another thread but I will post here (for now) for recommendations.

When running Serviio 1.2 / MacOS 10.8.3 using the WDTV media player I now get speedy, showing of plugin links on the WDTV menu but, when I try to access them, I get the message:

"Unable to play the selected file. Please see the user manual for a list of supported file formats"

It is happening with 3 versions of WDTV and different WDTV firmware versions. Before Serviio 1.2 and / or Mac OS 10.8.3 they all played plugins perfectly. It is occurring on different home networks that are unchanged in connection scheme since all was working perfectly.

I am unsure what has changed to cause the problem and do not know what I should check next.

Thanks to everyone who has tried to help :-)

Regards,

Steve
