Gif compatibility issues

Hello all, I am new to Serviio so I am still learning the ins and outs of the service.

I have in my shared folder a few test files (jpeg, mp4, and gif) and am trying to build an iOS application to interface with the files. With the jpeg and mp4 files, I am able to access through the mediabrowser as well as the CDS API on the iOS app, however, I am having trouble with the gif file. The gif file is displaying as a static jpeg file and when I try to use the content-url from CDS, I see a raw jpeg file, not a gif file.

What am I doing wrong?

Re: Gif compatibility issues

I'm assuming your GIF file includes animation, and you're only seeing the static image. I don't know if animated GIF files are supported in the DLNA standard. From what I can find, that might be the issue. I do see the Serviio developer includes an identification tag in the profiles file, but I don't see a single profile entry to support transcoding GIF images. Looking at the help page for profile structure, there's no mention of GIF files.

Re: Gif compatibility issues

I see, I'm assuming that "added support for GIF image files" from the release notes (https://serviio.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=34) is just talking about being able to view a jpeg of the gif.

That's a bummer :(

Re: Gif compatibility issues

My goodness, that release note was from Jan 23, 2011. That was before I even started using Serviio! Lots of changes in the application since then. Hopefully Zip will see this thread and be able to provide a more certain answer.
