Serviio

I have run 1.4 but 1.5 onwards I get a nsis error. On both win xp sp3, whs 2011 and win 7 pro 64 bit.
I am now trying to install on a clean win 7 pro 64bit but even mirror download gives error.

Still no solution. Older version works on whs 2011 and used to work on this pc. Will need to get older version and install it I guess.

Tried the unblocking security button (right click and on properties tab) and dont have antivirus downloaded yet.
Have downloaded java but will install tomorrow.

You don't need Java. On Windows, Serviio installs it's own dedicated Java VM.

I am curious, are you using the WHS dashboard plug-in for Serviio, and it's not showing up there? Because that plug-in won't work with newer versions of Serviio.

Also, try downloading Serviio again, this time from a mirror site. One of the reasons listed on the web link above is a corrupted download.

WHS 2011 I gave up. Using serviio as is with no plug ins.
Win 7 I have tried downloading from serviio and the serviio mirror site.
Am aware java not needed but thought maybe it has an impact on the downloading.

I doubt it. I have it on Ultimate, which has all the Pro stuff as well all the Home stuff. I also ran it successfully on Server 2003 (still do at my daughter's house) and WHS 2011. It's just with WHS there is no dashboard plug-in that works.

Since there's no plug-in, you have two options to manage Serviio if you are running your WHS headless.
1) Connect with Remote Desktop and work with it as if you're sitting at the console (or use a VNC server to do the same)
2) Install just the Serviio console on a different computer in you home and manage it remotely.

I've used both methods. Running the console remotely is simpler, with a caveat or two. You have to make sure you enter the media paths accurately, as the server sees them, not as your local computer. Using Remote Desktop let's you get to everything on the server, but there's slight lag in mouse and key response.

My WHS 2011 is running older 1.4 version but my pc with win 7 pro cant do it.

Can't do what? Install just the console? Yes you can, but you have to install the same version console as the server is running. That means you have to use the 1.4 install and select Console Only. You can't install the console from 1.5.2 to connect to a server running 1.4.

Or is it something else you mean? Just want to help.

Serviio 1.5 fails at bat while installing now latest doesnt even install at all. As it gives an error.
Older version 1.4 installs and works fine on WHS 2011.
On my win 7 pc 1.4 worked but 1.5 gives error as well on install.
Trying to get old 1.4 to reinstall.

So cant install new serviio at all on whs 2011 or win 7 pro.

Is there any explanation in the error message at all? When it fails, does it remove the install folder cleanly? If there's still a C:\Program Files\Serviio folder, try renaming it (rather than deleting), reboot the computer, and try install again.

I've never encountered a problem installing Serviio on XP, Server 2003, WHS 2011 or WIndows 7/8. I wonder if there's anything listed in the Windows console logs? Either under System or Applications?

Will try again next weekend.

Took download of 1.4.1.2 from another pc and setup without problems. Working now.

After clean install of whs 2011 I tried reloading latest serviio version (works on my win 10 pc) but get incompatible application message.
Yet 1.4.1.2 worked perfectly.

I'll try installing it on my WHS 2011 machine just to see if I can duplicate. That computer doesn't have the horsepower to do any transcoding, but I can at least see if I have the same problem.

I'm sorry to report that the 1.5.2 install went just fine. I was logged in as administrator, and I ran the install file from another computer. No special tricks or anything. While I can't say my WHS box is a clean install (been running for close to two years) I haven't installed anything special to my knowledge.

I have a HPN54L hp microserver. Maybe some security in it? Will try from a usb. No hassles on win 10 machine and older 1.4 worked fine as well.

Installed whs 2011 serviio add in. It installed an old version of serviio 0.6.1 [FEARFUL FACE]
Will see how it goes
