Hello,
I was streaming full featured MKV file, which was using ~4Mbps bandwidth.

The playback was discontinuous. After direct ethernet connection RENDERER <=> COMPUTER, the problem disappeared.

I have a question: do you know good WiFi routers that can play high bitrate AV files "steadily"?

What is in fact the problem with such playback and configuration? Do I have a crap router?

I use a Belkin N gaming router. You also should look at this post http://forum.serviio.org/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=2439. It will tell you what your neighbors are using and if they could be affecting you.

I use a WZR-HP-G300NH with DD-WRT and stream HD but a lot of variables in getting good wifi speed.

Homeplugs 200mpg+ or cable might be a better option.

Thanks guys for the tips. I performed one more test yesterday: COMPUTER <=> router <=> RENDERER but with regular Ethernet cable instead of WiFi. It worked.

I have a docking station for my laptop (Sony Vaio) so currently I will use Ethernet cable when docked.

This is not best choice, as I was thinking about putting the laptop in other room while watching HD movie, to not hear its fan :S Maybe the homeplugs then? Hmm.

I am overall very happy that my HTheater (bdv e870) is capable of >20Mbps playback through DLNA (some scenes were in fact 20Mbps..).

These routers that you recommended are not cheap :S I just bought Pentegram Cerberus for my brother I hope it is not a peace of crap.

i would never recommend homeplugs as they cause way to many issues to ber worth the bother, get a decent router like the 2 i suggested and you can stream HD movies over wifi from 2 house away

( yes i have done this as a test )

you would still only get 100mbps as it would be limited by the device, so 500mbps dual band wifi will still be a better option.

How many Mbps does HD movie require? I saw 20Mbps, so I think 50Mbps are possible?

PS. I am quoting Mbps values shown by HTheater (it shows audio format, kbps, video format (AVC) and its Mbps).

yes correct but you have to factor in what other thing your network is doing at the same time

and bottenecks in your network will also cause issues

I am using cables and everything works but recently I occurred a MKV that in some moments has like >= 40 Mbps and in those moments the playback gets disturbed. Wonder what is the bottleneck in this situation. I suspect my Sony e870.

yep sony cant copy with it that high, see the sony section for more advise.
