Sony Bravia KDL - 32EX520. Transcoding issues and srt

Hi guys,

I have been using serviio for a while now and i can say that is the best DLNA software i came across. I even recommended this to all my friends.

Anyway long story short. Trying to play MKV file with srt subs and at the beginning i had trouble with "Server temporarily... etc". I have read all the related posts and corrected the problem.
Now that i have changed profile (2011) and the MKV is fine, the aspect ratio is not full screen. ( i even read the posts regarding this and i corrected the profiles by removing "DAR=16:9"). So the weird thing is that if i remove the srt file from the movie's folder, the MKV plays fine with the aspect ratio correctly. If i place back the file srt the movie "shrinks" and further than that after 5 min of play it starts to break/freeze.

I have done everything i could find out of the forum (upgraded ffmpeg, clear Temp, have extra disk space, change profiles e.t.c).

One last thing is that when the movie plays correctly without the srt, before you click on it it says that is AVC. When it is playing with srt it says MPG2.

Hope i was clear enough.

Thank you in advance

What is happening: when you have the srt file in, Serviio is transcoding the file (to MPEG2 which your TV sees it as). Without the srt Serviio delivers the file natively - your TV sees it as AVC and aspect ratio is correct.

The reason it is transcoding when the srt file is there, and not when it isn't, is (I suspect) that you have "Enable Burin In subtitles" checked on the Delivery, Subtitles tab of Serviio console. Try turning it off and seeing whether it is actually needed for subtitles on MKV's on your TV.

Thank you for the fast reply.
Yes indeed the option you are referring is already ticked but without it the subs cannot be displayed ( i think i tried it). Let me check again though as i am not sure. I will unchecked it and try also other profiles(2010 -2012).

So you want subs....everything is working normally but the freeze / breakup suggest your PC is struggling to keep up on the the mpeg2 transcode. What CPU have you got ? How is your tv connected to the router ?

Back again. i have unchecked the option , the mkv plays fine but no subs. oh iit is in AVC format so no transcoding also.

yes you might be right about the computeer hardware. i will give it a shot from my server also.. if it runs smooothly though , which it will i beleve, then tthe onlyy thing to sort out would be th aspect ratio shrinkness when a movie is transcoded.
