Greetings from Brazil, guys!

I'd like to know what's the minimum requirements for Serviio to transcode 1080p videos?

Well, I'm using Popcorn Time to download a 1080p torrent, and I'm trying to send that to my PlayStation 3.
It is impossible. The video doesn't run smoothly on the PS3.

I noticed that ffmpeg ran by Serviio on my computer can't transcode the video fast enough.

I'm using a mid-2010 macbook pro. It has a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz CPU and 8 GB of RAM.

Do I need a more powerful machine or what? Remembering that Popcorn Time itself, with its torrent downloading, already consumes A LOT of CPU resources.

the quality of the video your trying to transcode will afftect things as well.
1080P yes but what bitrate, what about the audio for the vids bitrate as well. how many channels for that audio.

those details will affect the transcoding process as well.

but for a system that old transcoding 1080P video plus doing other tasks... ehh probably not... maybe ok for 720p but higher would cause stutter often.

never tested a dual core system before with serviio though. but faster cores and maybe using a quad core system you might be ok.

I think you've identified it with Popcorn Time still running. Transcoding will usually take everything a box has for CPU power. While my test server is only a dual core with less ram, it only has to transcode for my Roku players. Every other player I have can handle almost everything else. It can usually keep up with transcoding 1080p, as long as it's not doing anything else. Even then, the Roku will occasionally pause to buffer.

One thing I've found that helps slightly is switching FFMPEG to a 64 bit version. At least on Windows, Serviio uses the 32 bit version. All of my computers are using a 64 bit OS, so I usually replace FFMPEG with the latest x64 version. It has (for me) improved transcoding performance a little. Since there are still so many people that use a 32 bit OS, I can understand why Zip still uses the 32 bit version. I'm not familiar with swapping FFMPEG on a Mac, so someone else might have the steps.
