x265 Transcoding does not work on Samsung TV

Hi.
I have a file encoded with x265 profile, And I try to play it on Samsung LA32D550 TV (Series C/D)
Since the TV does not support this codec, I'd expect Serviio to transcode it, however I still get "Unsupported Codec" message on tv when trying to play the file.

Can someone advice how to enable this transcoding? (except re-encoding the file offline)

That appears to be a pretty old version of FFMPEG. What version of Serviio are you using? I'm not sure exactly when FFMPEG began supporting x265.

My first suggestion is to update your FFMPEG with the latest 64 bit version. The other thing is, have you created or modified a profile for your Samsung to transcode x265 MKV files? When I look at the existing stock profiles, I don't see a line to capture h265. That would explain why it can't be played, because the profile isn't telling it to transcode the file.

It works fine for me with the stock 1.5.2 profile, playing the H265 version of BIG BUCK BUNNY. http://www.elecard.com/assets/files/oth ... _720p_c.ts

The transcode is in the "sam_h" profile

Your log is similar and shows the same ffmpeg command being generated and MPEG2VIDEO being sent to the TV so "Unsupported Codec" makes no sense. Try the BIG BUCK BUNNY file. Perhaps it is the audio causing the problem.

Your log is similar and shows the same ffmpeg command being generated and MPEG2VIDEO being sent to the TV so "Unsupported Codec" makes no sense. Try the BIG BUCK BUNNY file. Perhaps it is the audio causing the problem.



Well tested the above as the others mentioned and used the test file mentioned and it works for me. update your serviio to the latest version 1.5.2 and go from there. use the suggested profile... The sam_h profile seems to work just fine for me.... try this and post results and we will help more if we can.

Best to use that "old" thread...
I'm trying to watch x265 encoded movies, starting by that BIG BUCK BUNNY http://www.elecard.com/assets/files/oth ... _720p_c.ts which I downloaded to be sure I used the same one, and it does not work, giving me the "unsupported codec" message.
Have Serviio 1.5.2 on Windows 7 and for plugins purpose a very recent FFmpeg version.

Any idea where to go from there?

I think the following provides a fix for this issue:
I'm running Serviio 1.5.2 on Windows 7. I had the same problem with this on my Samsung UE40D5520 TV when using the "Samsung TV / player (C/D-series)" profile (Profile id="7"). A lot of video that was being transcoded, and all H.265 stuff, was giving the "video codec not supported error" on the TV. What I did was systematically try all the profiles in turn until I found one that worked when transcoding a H.265 encoded video. The first profile when assigned to the TV that managed to play the video (and I stopped trying at that point) was "Panasonic BD Player" (Profile id="panasonicBDT220"). The Transcoding lines for that profile for all the different classes of video/audio read:

I then compared this to the transcoding line that gets executed when using the "Samsung TV / player (C/D-series)" profile to play a H.265 encoded video. By inheritance this appears within the "Samsung TV / player (H-series)" profile (Profile id="sam_h") and is:

The obvious difference that may matter between the two appears to be the use of maxVBitrate="15360" parameter for the "Panasonic BD Player" profile. So I changed the "Samsung TV / player (H-series)" transcoding line to include this parameter thus:

and voila, it worked.

Incidentally, I don't know what the the largest maxVBitrate is that my Samsung D series TV supports and haven't tested it. Anyone? Having got the transcoding to work I was then stuck with the problem of the time search then not working which I see there is no solution to and so I have once more reverted to recoding H.265 video back to H.264 using Handbrake which is a shame given the much smaller H.265 file sizes.

Anyway, I hope that helps someone.
