Roku 4 (or even Roku 3) optimized profile??
Posted: Sat Oct 24, 2015 6:18 amUnfortunately, I don't have the knowledge to fix this, but the profile for Roku is far from optimal for the newer models (at least the Roku 4).
The Roku 4 natively plays a decent combination of codecs, but it has a few missing (VC-1) and seems to have issues with multiple subtitle tracks.
Unfortunately, the serviio profiles result in heavy transcoding when none is necessary. Interestingly enough, the CPU load from the transcoding it didn't need to do was substantially higher than the transcoding it did when it was necessary.(
For example - watching a video with VC-1 that was being transcoded to H264 was about 60% CPU. Watching another video that required no transcoding whatsoever was pegging the CPU at 99%.
This is a big bummer because it also screws up FF/RW while placing load on my server and presumably degrading audio/video quality.
I noticed that there are some pretty different profiles floating around (i.e. a newer one w/ an apple container target) but I've seen the issue on all of them.
My guess is that the root of the problem is that the developers have attempted to create a super generic Roku profile that will work for a variety of Roku devices that actually have different capabilities. The result is a lowest common denominator.
Does anyone have a profile that is optimized for the capabilities of the newer Roku models? Basically one that only transcodes when it is actually necessary.
