H265 Encoding not working on Kodi

I have started playing with H265 Encoding and was very happy to find Serviio already supports it.

I am able to successfully stream to my LG TV and my Android devices (Transcoded) but when I try and play it on Kodi (Raspberry Pi or PC version) it doesn't start and gives an error unable to play. I have always run Kodi on the Generic DLNA profile which has always worked so I was a bit surprised Kodi didn't stream the H265 as it supports H265 nativity.

I have currently set the Kodi to the WD-Live TV profile which does enable the H265 files to be played but they are getting transcoded which they shouldn't need to be as Kodi Supports H265.

Is this the best Profile to use for Kodi?

Many thanks

Mike

The Generic DLNA profile.

Kodi uses its own (or the OS's) codecs to decode videos. As discussed in http://kodi.wiki/view/HEVC version 14 of Kodi supports it, but you will need some grunt to decode it (which may preclude the Pi). You can always write your own profile just to transcode h265 if the Pi/your PC hasn't got enough grunt.

ps. having said all that, why use a DLNA Server with Kodi. Cant you just access the media directly as a share?

I use iDealshare VideoGo to convert H.265 to MP4, then I can successfully play them on Kodi.

I found this solution from this article: https://www.idealshare.net/ipad-ipod-ip ... -h265.html

I use Kodi on my Nvidia Shield, and use the generic profile with Serviio. Kodi plays everything I have without transcoding, passes HDR and lossless audio through, and overall works great. I am using Kodi 18 beta 3, but even when I was still using Kodi 17 it was doing the same.
