LaCie LaCinema Media Players - Serviio Profile

PostPosted: Fri May 06, 2011 9:09 am

I will try to make a profile for LaCie LaCinema HD media players (mine is LaCinema MiniHD Connect) which are DLNA certified.
My model works quite well with Serviio's Generic DLNA profile, the dot is green and the device is identified by name, but external subtitles are not streamed (subtitles which are available within video container ARE streamed). If anyone can help with suggestion, so I wouldn't go trial-and-error for too long, I would very much appreciated.

Here are the supported files and features:

Video Codecs : MPEG-1, MPEG-2 / HD, MPEG-4, DIVX, DIVX HD, XVID, H.264 HD, WMV9 HD, VC-1, AVC/AVCHD (a majority of AVC/AVCHD formats have been tested and are compatible).

Video Format : AVI, MP4, MKV, WMV, DivX, DAT, MOV**, MPEG, VOB, ASF, TS, TP, TRP, M2TS, DVR-MS, DVD-Video (ISO, Video_TS)****

Subtitles : SRT, SSA, SUB, SMI, PSB, ASS

Audio Format : MP3, WMA, WAV/PCM/LPCM, AAC**, OGG, FLAC, AC3, MP4, MKA (*supports iTunes-encoded)

Subtitle Languages : Western Europe, Central Europe (Windows-1250), Central Europe (ISO), Traditional Chinese (Big5), Simplified Chinese (GB18030), Japanese (Shift-JIS), Korean (EUC-KR), Cyrillic (Windows-1251), Cyrillic (KOI8-R), Turkish, Greek (Windows-1253), Greek (ISO)

Photo : JPEG*, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF/TIF (*excluding progressive jpeg)

Audio Multichannel Decoding : DTS, DTS HD, Dolby 5.1: convert to stereo to play on TV

Audio Multichannel Passthrough : DTS, Dolby 5.1, Dolby true HD: raw signal sent via HDMI or optical audio to compatible audio amplifier

DTS HD: DTS signal sent via HDMI or optical audio to compatible audio amplifier

Playlist : PLS, M3U, WPL (Windows Media Player, Winamp compatible)

And here is the start. i have ammended the profiles with the following code, in a hope to make Serviio load external subtitles and automatically assign the correct profile.
  Code:
   <Profile id="14" name="LaCie LaCinema Media Players" extendsProfileId="1">
      <Detection>
         <UPnPSearch>
            <ModelNumber>LaCinema.*</ModelNumber>
         </UPnPSearch>
      </Detection>
      <SubtitlesMimeType>text/srt</SubtitlesMimeType>
   </Profile>

I could only manage to get Serviio to identify and asign the correct profile to the device, but EXTERNAL subtitles are not streamed yet. Any hints?

As a personal taste, I would also like to set a lower bitrate to audio streams in AAC audio container or to remux them so the AV receiver could decode them (it has a limit to up to 320kbps, although the media player can pass through AAC at any rate)... but I don't know exactly how should I handle this.

Is the device supposed to support external subs over DLNA? Did you get it working using any other server? The profile you're using should be ok to serve the subtitle resource to the device but if it doesn't support it (or supports it in a different way - as subs are not in the DLNA standard) then you're out of luck.

Yes, Twonky Server can stream external subtitles. I have it installed and it works. Can I investigate any further, zip? Could you give me any hints?

Try adding this line to your profile:

  Code:
<ContentDirectoryMessageBuilder>org.serviio.upnp.service.contentdirectory.PanasonicDLNAMessageBuilder</ContentDirectoryMessageBuilder>

Lacie is not DLNA certified, but DLNA Compatible...
Do you try this, to know supported formats over DLNA?

@zip: THAT HELPED! External subtitles are now streamed by Serviio to LaCinema MiniHD! One note though, if subtitles are available in video container and are alos external, only external one is available, not both. If no external subtitle is available, then the one in video container is displayed.

Could you give me a hint on how I should limit the bandwidth of AAC stream to 320kbps?

Thank you!

You'd have to transcode all your aac streams to ac3 with the aBitrate set to 320 - but it'll make a lot of your videos that would normally play natively to be transcoded.

@zip: I wonder if you could tell me how to write the transcoding profile for AAC audio to be at lower bitrate, everything else being left just the same, regardless the video container/codec. I tried for a while, but I can't get it to work...

I tried by doing this:

  Code:
<Transcoding>
<Video targetContainer="mpeg" targetACodec="aac" aBitrate="320">
   <Matches container="asf" aCodec="aac" />
   <Matches container="flv" aCodec="aac" />
   <Matches container="mpeg" aCodec="aac" />
   <Matches container="mpegts" aCodec="aac" />
   <Matches container="mpegvideo" aCodec="aac" />
   <Matches container="avi" aCodec="aac" />
   <Matches container="mp4" aCodec="aac" />
   <Matches container="matroska" aCodec="aac" />
</Video>
</Transcoding>

Thank you in advance.

Do you have a look at the detailed logging file, you could find error or warning?

This file is treamed in Native format, does lacie support MKV over DLNA ? not sure according to the specifcation...
You probably need to transcode into MPEG2TS.

On your latest log file, it seems "Generic Profile" is selected not your "Lacie Profile"...

I can't seem to find a way to transcode/remux .mp4 with AAC audio so that it can be played through LaCie profile.... I tried everything. The log only shows that the connection is reset.

This is the file I tried to transcode:

  Code:
<Transcoding>
 <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3">
  <Matches container="mp4" aCodec="aac"/>
 </Video>
</Transcoding>

The file doesn't play on LaCie through SERVIIO. However, if I try to play the file directly from shared folder, it plays well, only it doesn't have audio, due to a limitation in LaCie player, which doesn't passthrough AAC sound to my Onkyo AV receiver. That's why I need to transcode AAC audio into something to be passed through to the receiver.

Any help and suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Re: LaCie LaCinema Media Players - Serviio Profile

By now I have done every possible attempt to transcode MP4 with AAC audio into something that is playable to LaCie media player, and while I do can play the file if I access it from a shared folder (again, without sound - my Onkyo receiver wrongly identifies the AAC multichannel stream as Dolby but no sound is getting through), any attempt to play with transcoding activated in Serviio results in either:
- file not playing or,
- LaCie being hung up and restarting.

If transcoding is deactivated, then the file can be played through Serviio, but without sound, of course; same as if it was played directly from shared folder...

I even tried to force audio to stereo in the transcoding profile, and also setting downmix to stereo in the Serviio's console, but with the same results.

So I came up to these conclusions:

a) LaCie player might pass through raw AAC multichannel (or stereo) streams, but Onkyo AV receiver cannot handle it for some reason, although the manual shows that it can play AAC files, but does not specify if it can play multichannel streams, so I asume the receiver can only play stereo files with the correct bitrate and sample frequency. I don't know exactly what LaCie media player takes out for audio though, but something might be wrong since the receiver "sees" AAC as DolbyD.

b) For some reasons which I can't understand yet, Serviio can't transcode this MP4 with AAC file into something that LaCie can play correctly. I tried everything for audio: ac3, lpmc, forceStereo... nothing worked. As for video, I tried to leave the stream as it is (H264) or to transcode it into mpeg2video, but it didn't worked.

So, now I am puzzled and left with no other ideas... Any help or suggestion are to be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Are you sure you try different audio ac3, lpcm, forcestereo, etc...do you check the temporary file format ( *.stf) with "ffmpeg -i" command

What do you mean by "didn't worked"? idid ffmpeg failed or your TV did not support the format?

At least one output file must be specified

By "didn't worked" I meant "file not playing or, LaCie being hung up and restarting".

Just for the sake of clarity, LaCie MiniHD Connect is a media player, not a TV.
