Samsung 50TU8502 UHD

I have problem with audio (AVC and DTS) to play on my TV.
Previously I have had Samsung 40C650 series and I have not seen subtitle on my new TV. After changed profile to B series, subtitle is Ok now.
Do I need to check transcoding or generally `profile` covert audio to ac3 by default ?

Thank you.

AVC is a video, not audio codec. And your TV should support AVC video without a problem. DTS is of course an audio codec, and few TVs will support it. However, many Samsung TVs will play DTS audio, but you have to change the setting in the audio menu. My JU7100 will do that.

However, as a test you could try using the Roku 4K TV profile. It will transcode DTS to AC3 audio, and should leave most of your video codecs alone. The one issue with the Roku profiles is that Rokus don't support very many containers, so that profile might cause files to be transcoded without need. But it will be a good test to see if that clears up your non-play issues.

You didn't need to post the same question in the other thread, so I'll be removing that one.

Thank you very much.
I will post lately log files from mkv`s which does and doesn`t play audio on my TV.
I will change to Rokku profile and report here.

Sorry for double post, I forgot in which thread I posted.

Servvio is fantastic media server for me. Others (Mezzmo, Plex) are too confusing and need registration.

Here is my report, what I tried playing mkv with dts audio

1. Samsung NU series profile + transcoding checked in serviio ------- Please check your network connection. No video, no audio .
2. Sasmung Nu series profiles + transcoding unchecked in servio --- Audio not supported. No Video, no audio. Mkv movies with audio ac3 , show subtitle .
3. Roky 4K profiles + unchecked transcoding ---------------------------- No audio, no video . Mkv movies with ac3 audio, no show subtitle.
4. Roky 4K profiles + checked transcode ---------------------------------- Play mkv movie with dts audio, no ff, no subtitle .

How to add lines in NU profiles for transcoding dts to ac3 ?

Alien 1 - dts
21.Bridges - ac3

Added both media txt file

First, your video "21 Bridges" should play without any problem. It has AVC/H.264 video and AC3 audio, both of which your TV should be able to play without transcoding.

The second video also has AVC video, although it's level 5.1. But I would expect any current 4K TV to support that without a problem. The audio is DTS, so that needs transcoding. Audio only transcoding doesn't require much computer power, as the video is left untouched.

The Roku TV profile has the necessary lines to take care of the DTS audio and leave the video alone, since as you noted it now plays. Normally, transcoded media loses the ability for trick play (FF, rewind, resume), but the Roku TV profiles use the applehttp streaming profile, which permits trick play on most devices. However, Samsung has terrible DLNA support, so it might simply be an issue that can't be addressed. I never use the built in DLNA function of my Samsung TV because it's so bad. My playback devices are either Roku or Nvidia Shield players. I gave up on using the Samsung player many years ago. Your captions track is SSA format, and I don't know if Samsung supports that as an embedded track. Best I can recall, the only time I ever saw captions using the Samsung player was with external SRT files.

Did you specifically use the Roku 4K TV profile, not the 4K player profile? There are differences, and you just said you used the Roku 4K profile. Also, transcoding will always need to be enabled, so don't uncheck that box unless all your media is 100% supported by all players.

I tried pulling up the manual for your TV online, but I couldn't find your specific model. I could find the TU8000, but they don't appear to be the same set.

Thank you so much for prompt answering.

Here is link for user manuals for my TV ( https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mode ... #downloads )

I used Roky 4K profile, not 4K profile.

My video folder has 2 files (MKV file and srt file). I never embeded subtitle into movie.
21. bridges movie, plays well with audio and subtitle, ff/rev works using Samsung NU profile.

What if I add ( reading https://www.serviio.org/index.php?optio ... icle&id=24 ) following lines in NU profiles :

<Transcoding>
<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3">
<Matches container="matroska" aCodec="dca"/>
</Video>
</Transcoding>

You mentioned, you do not use Samsung dlna player.
My pc conf is:
I5-4460 , Gigabyte Z-97, 2x8GB Corsair ddr3, Nvidia GTX1660 super, Samsung 840Evo ssd,....

How to use nvidia card as dlna player .
My TV connected to pc via Lan cable attached to Archer C6 v.2 router.

The NU profile already has a DCA matches line. In have, it's in the very first section, so your video should be playing fine with the NU-Series profile. Here's what that section contains:
  Code:
<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3" aBitrate="512">
            <Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" aCodec="truehd" />
            <Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" aCodec="dts-hd" />
            <Matches container="*" aCodec="dca" />
         </Video>

The bottom Matches line captures any video with DTS audio, regardless of container or video codec. Perhaps you should double-check that you've assigned that profile correctly.

If your computer is connected to the TV via HDMI, then you could use a player such as VLC to play any of your media. You wouldn't even need Serviio, as all the media is there on the computer. But VLC is also capable of playing it via Serviio as well. Another nice player is Kodi, which offers a user interface that can be controlled with a remote designed to be used with computers. Your video card is more than capable of supporting 4K playback, and it has HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2, so there should be no playback issues.

My Pc connected to TV via lan cable.

I have already tried Kodi, but TV does not `see` Kodi.

Here is screenshots (NU profile, transcoding) from serviio settings .

I have just tried UMS (Universal Media Server) and dts converted to ac3 by default.
here is UMS log file.

I want to use serviio , because I like it, and user interface is better than UMS.

When I mentioned Kodi, I was referring to your computer being connected to the TV and using the computer and Kodi as the player, not the TV player. Your TV won't see Kodi since you haven't configured it to be a media server.

I wrote the Samsung NU profile, so I'm familiar with it. What I can't understand is why it's not working for you. The very first transcoding section contains this tag: <Matches container="*" aCodec="dca" />. That will capture any video with DTS audio, regardless of container or video codec. Serviio uses the first match it encounters, so no DTS audio should be missed. I guess the only way to figure it out would be for you to enable detailed logging, and then attempt to play the video with DTS. Then you can save that log file and switch back to normal logging. Attach the log here so we can see exactly what Serviio is attempting when you play the DTS video.

I'd also be curious what the detailed log looks like for the video that I said should play without transcoding.

Dear sir,
thank you very much for helping me to solved my problem.

What is did ?
used Samsung NU profile
checked transcoding option.

Now dts is automatically converted to ac3, I have audio, video and *.srt (UTF-8) subtitle. Subtitle does not following spoken words, ( on my PC subtitle is synched with audio) . Still not able to ff/rev , but it does not concern me.

Before you suggestion, I have been using mkvtoolNix to exctract audio. Then using Audicity, converting dts to ac-3, then put back in mkv new audio stream.

Do you know what I have to do, for transcoded audio and subtitle be synchronized, please ?

Here is log from UMS and screenshot (maybe you will get an idea why during transcoding audio and subtitle is out of synch ) .
Using UMS while transcoding, audio and subtitle is synched during all movie time.

I know nothing about UMS, so that info doesn't tell me anything I'm afraid. I have no audio sync issues with any of my devices, so I wouldn't know where to begin looking for a cause.

As far as subtitles, I've seen them out of sync when I've used external SRT files, but never with internal captions. But then the Samsung doesn't support many, if any, internal subs, so it's one more reason I never use the TV features for playback. Perhaps someone else can offer some advice here.

Hello.
I am here again.

After everything I have tried, I did not find yet, why Serviio 2.1 not want to transcode mkv file with dts audio .
Yes, I have entered path to transcoded folder, but nothing there during playing movie. The folder is empty.

I tried today Mezzmo, and he`s transcoding forking fine. I have video, audio, subtitle, but no ff/rev. No audio issue.

Could you make new Serviio version with support for [TV] Samsung 8 Series (50), please.
Or what I am going to do to be able to watch video with audio dts converting on the fly.

Every idea is acceptible.
Thank you.
