"Filetype not recognized" on Samsung plasma

Hi and thanks for a great app,
I'm quite new to this so please excuse any newbie mistakes... though, I don't get this to work with video files

I've managed to setup the DLNA connection correctly between Serviio on my PC (Win7) and my Samsung PS51D8000 plasma. Also, I've chosen the Samsung D-series profile in the Serviio console. However, my Samsung still claims that .avi (xvid, divx) and .mkv (etc) are unrecognized file types. The only file type that I get to work are Microsoft ".wmv"-files. The transcoding is activated but I don't know if it's doing anything... Thanks for any help on this!

Thanks for a fast reply! ... I turned on the "DEBUG" mode by using a text editor and attached the log file from the "LOG" folder to this message.

Could you explain your installation connection/configuration (Router with DHCP, fixed IP adress, etc)?
Starting DiscoverySSDPMessageListener using interface eth3 (Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller) and address 192.168.1.79, timeout = 0
-name = 'Unrecognized device', ipAddress='192.168.1.75', profile = '1'
-name = 'Unrecognized device', ipAddress='192.168.1.69', profile = '1'
-name = 'PS51D8000', ipAddress='192.168.1.69', profile = '1'
-name = 'AVR-3311', ipAddress='192.168.1.75', profile = '1
..
- name = 'Unrecognized device', ipAddress='192.168.1.64', profile = '1''
...
- name = 'Unrecognized device', ipAddress='192.168.1.79', profile = '1'
- name = 'Sony BD Player', ipAddress='192.168.1.70', profile = '10'
Please fix all your devices IP address, clear all device in serviio console, restart serviio serviio and post logging file.

Thanks. I hope I'm doing the right things...
I'm running a Zyxel modem/router with DHCP. The Samsung plasma is connected wirelessly to the network through the built-in Samsung wi-fi. Pictures and music works fine.
1. I removed all entries in the device list in the Serviio console and manually added my Samsung plasma with the IP-address found under the network settings on the TV (192.168.1.69).
2. Then I tried to play a .mkv, divx and a mpeg4 file. All with the result "Codec not recognized".
3. Last, I'm attaching the log-file to this message.

1) you probably didn't restart the service properly
2) there is no mention of playing a file in the log

I clicked stop and start... though, now I re-started all the machines and ran some new tests (still not working). Please find the latest log file. I had to cut the first part as if was growing beyond 256k.
Cheers, Henrik

Stop/Start button on serviio console did not affect the serviio service...only the server connection.
Use Windows Start Program menu where you'll found ..."Start Serviio Service" and "Stop Serviio Service"

Videokamera 001 - HD - Xvid Video.avi
Videokamera 002 - HD - MKV Video.mkv
are delivered in native format (no transcoding)
Could you post "ffmpeg -i" and MediaInfo results of these files?

Hmm... the "ffmpeg" (program) does not launch correctly on my Win7 machine. When I click the file there's just a flash with a small cmd pop-up and then it's gone. I will try on a different machine.

Xabre wrote:Mediainfo details (MKV)
Thanks, seems good too, that could be due to the "Lavf51.12.1" used.
Could you try with
MKVmerge tool to remux the file ?
Be carefull with "header compression" feature :

Someone else with Samsung Plasma could confirm that supports following file format?
- AVI container with MP4 video and MP3 audio
- MKV container with h264/AVC video and MP3 audio
I have a doubt with MP3 audio.
With MP4, I would have preferred AAC audio
With h264/AVC, I would have preferred AC3 audio

The source files are AVCHD from a Panasonic video camera. I converted them to XVID, DivX, MKV etc using a video converter from [MODERATED]. Maybe there are better converters?

Why converting them?
AVCHD from Panasonic video Camera is a MPEG2TS with AVC/h264 and AC3 audio.
You could try to add the original file into the Serviio library, Samsung TV may support it.

Sorry, but no... that was the first thing I tried. Thanks for your time but I'm almost giving up here. I've failed to play at least DivX, Xvid, MKV, Mpeg-4 and AVCHD. The Samsung 8-series + DLNA still sucks and I'm minutes from buying a NAS/media extender.

It plays all the files you mentioned, do you have the proper profile selected?

Yes, I've chosen the C+D Samsung TV-series profile in the device section. I will provide the Media info in a minute.
