Is there any NAS on the market that would be able to trans-code on fly to tvs ?
I looked into Synology DS412+ with Dual Core 2.13GHz Processor - is that enough to handle that ?
Currently I have DLINK 325 which isnt able to do anything much thats why Im using dektop as HTPC with serviio on it but I would like to have only NAS running instead of always starting my htpc and shutting it off after done watching

I have two tvs - Samsung 60" led is great takes all kinds of files but my Toshiba 3d 55" sucks - wont play even avis when using serviio on nas and when transcoding movies is supper choppy.

Lots of variables, what format will the mkv be transcoded too for your set ? AVC ? mpeg2 ?

A self build NAS maybe an option and far cheaper than the Synology box you mention. Or why not just buy a media player than does everything, far cheaper and would work with your NAS as is.

1.) avi to mpeg and mkv what ever format that stupid toshiba plays.
2.) Never build any NAS before - didnt even know that was an option
3.) I had popcornhour before but i didnt like it too much. Do you know any MP that would support DLNA ? or will I hvae to load Serviio on them too ?
4.) The reason for NAS only would be just one device that is running and takes care of my media library.
