my new Toshiba Regza 46WL743 runs fine with the following Profile:




I slightly changed the Bravia TV Profile to view even.mkv-files.

Some .avi-files have problems - only sound is available - no video. Have to check this, but I think, the .avi's are not ok.

So you remove "<Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" />" because your Regza support mkv file in native (with generic profile)?
For confirmation, could you provide the GetInfoProtocol sink of your Regza model, see here.



Could you provide a "ffmpeg -i" result of your avi file with problem?

I moved some weeks ago, so my internet connection is very slow, my provider ...
and I've got plenty of work to do, so I haven't checked out all of serviio, but I think, it's the best streaming-service. It's easy and it runs with my toshiba via WLAN, even on server operation systems.

I'm also new to all that dlna stuff. I'm wondering about such a bad support of Toshiba-LCDs, even Toshiba provides only a poor software, not to talk about the manual.

Well, I only have exactly one .mkv-file and with the bravia-profile I wasn't able to view it. After the modification I was able to view it.

OK, so according to the GetInfoProtocol sink, your Regza TV only support:
MPEG2 Program stream
MPEG2 Transport Stream SD & HD
LPCM audio
MP3 audio
and JPEG (max 1024 x 768 pixels)

AVC/h264 not supported, so must be transcoded to mpeg2video:

I got some problems streaming mkv to my T Regza 40XV733G. The first program I used was Wild Media Server 1.05. The result was, that I could watch nearly every type of video from my pc. There were some issues with ff and rewind and I was not able to pause the video I was watching. If I tried to resume the video continued at a different (earlier) position. To sum up it was not worth paying 40 $ for it, so I found serviio was a good alternative.
I started with the configuration for Samsung TVs, and the mkv files were stuttering quite often. I like to watch the CSI series and especially for the flashbacks they are using some sort of high film grain amount which always causes stuttering and also asynchronous picture and sound, but the stuttering appears to be random as well. Another example is the intro of "The Big Bang Theory" series where there are a lot of pictures changing in very short time. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFy5FN06_zU) which also causes the video to stutter. The most aggravating problem is that the media server stops transcoding after 25 - 30 minutes. I never had this problem with WMS.
To use the Toshiba profile from above doesnt change a thing. Is there any way to fix the problem via changing the profile?

with the problem "no video but audio" - i also have this and maybe its a problem of aspect ratio? is there an option in profile to force a specific ratio?

No option on profile for aspect ratio.
But Serviio is based on ffmpeg.exe core, so you could make localy test by changing ffmpeg option : http://www.ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-doc.html#SEC6
-s size
-aspect aspect
etc...
The ffmpeg base command for avi transcoding is:
ffmpeg -i <movie_path.avi> -y -vcodec mpeg2video -sameq -r 23.98 -g 15 -copyts -acodec ac3 -ab 192k -sn -f mpegts <transcoded_path.ts>
Change frame rate 23.98 according to the avi source frame rate...
And try to stream the .ts output file

ok, i tried with size of hd1080 and aspect of 16:9 - the ts file on my pc is ok, i can play and it has the mpeg options you posted
when i play this file with my tv... black screan and sound is running
so it has nothing to do with aspect or size


any other solutions possible?


i recognize an other difference between running and not running movies :
i used the tool "gspot" to read out properties.
The working ones have set "DivX Style "packed bitstream" AVI" in container properties
the not working movies doesnt have this options - maybe a thing we should set to ffmpeg?

Could you post the log of the ffmpeg command you use for transcoding?

i reentered the command but didnt finish transcoding (thats why termination at the end)

i use the newest ffmpeg (hoped that it fixes the problem...)

In a somewhat related manner, I have a Toshiba 37VX733G which also only supports MPEG2 video, so I wrote about the profile I'm using here: http://forum.serviio.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1242. I only tried it on some .avi and .mp4 files - still have to see if mkv works. Please reply here if you find it useful or find any flaws to it.
