No srt external subtitles on Samsung 55JU6700

Hello,
I just updated to last version: 1.6.1. The SRT external subtitles doesn´t work.
With 1.6 version works fine.

Any ideas to make this work?

Thanks

Make sure you selected the J series Samsung profile.

It was recognized automatically... in 1.5, embedded subtitles didn't work, now they do but .srt don't...

It was fixed in 1.6. It's unlikely 1.6.1 would break it again. Can you post a detailed log of playing the file pls?

The profile is OK : "Samsung TV / player (J-series)"

Is this log what you need?

No, there should be something around the time you press Play. Quite a lot of text, so better just attach the log file here

Re: No srt external subtitles on Samsung 55JU6700

The log shows the subtiutle has been found, the TV requested it and Serviio served it successfully.

If it doesn't show, it's either a bug in the TV's firmware (try to update) or the subtitle file is corrupted. (try this: http://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=srtwiz)

The TV has the last firmware.

The same subtitle works fine in serviio 1.6.

Same problem if i use Version 1.5.2. Do you need a log file of 1.5.2 version too?

any ideas?

thanks

Re: No srt external subtitles on Samsung 55JU6700

Already tried several mkv + srt files and none of them work on my ju7500 tv, but they work fine on my older B and E series models.

I'm using Serviio 1.6.1 on a Qnap NAS.
How can I help you troubleshoot this?

Not any time soon I'm affraid, there is a lot of planned work to do and then testing. It would be good if you could join the beta testers group (PM me) and try the fix before it goes public

Re: No srt external subtitles on Samsung 55JU6700

Hey!

I can also confirm no .srt subtitles playing on UE65JS9005. Was working fine with 1.6. I tried to install back the 1.6 version however i (probably?) forgotten to delete some files somewhere and it didn't work even after reinstalling either.
Also sometimes TV doesn't recognize Serviio on startup and requires restarting like 5 times. Never had this before. Don't know if TV firmware is going nuts or something else. Also movies seem take longer to load with 1.6.1 compared to 1.6.

Cheers!

Re: No srt external subtitles on Samsung 55JU6700

I can confirm that external srt subtitles don't work on my 55JS8000 TV.

Worked on my old B Series with an older version of Serviio.

Another thing I am experiencing is long load times for any MKV file. Didn't use to be like that.

Is there any place in the logs, where I can check what's going on?

Many thanks!

Is anything being done regarding these issues? At the moment, the experience is completely broken for recent Samsung TVs, which hold a large share of the market...

Re: No srt external subtitles on Samsung 55JU6700

I don't blame Serviio so much as Samsung themselves. Their DLNA client is (in my opinion) less than stellar. It will not automatically load and play the next video in the list, but instead provides an network error message. You have to close the message and retry the video, which always then loads. Samsung doesn't implement their DLNA process accurately, and Serviio did just fix an error that Samsung made with retrieving metadata information (did not load the actual release date of the video but instead say everything was released in 1970). When I had a Samsung Blu-Ray player, it exhibited many of the same issues. I haven't tried any of the latest BD players from them. I've went back to Sony, as their DLNA support seems much more reliable.

I will say that my JU7100 does just fine with embedded captions from my DVD rips. I can choose whatever caption track I ripped (although I usually only keep the English track). I won't read the captions from a Blu-Ray rip, but that's understandable since a TV isn't designed to support that form of captions. I only have one or two external SRT files, so I can't speak to if they work without digging a little to see which ones they are.

.srt files embedded in MKV work fine. What does not work is external .srt files. Used to work before.

And then there is that strange long load time for some MKVs.

But I agree with you Samsung's Tizen OS may be good for phones and tablets but for TVs is a disaster.

Has anybody tried with another DLNA server and see if external subs are displayed?
