Re: cannot read the folder in linux

For the Serviio install on the Linux box, where are you media files located? If they are networked somewhere, Serviio probably doesn't have permission to access the network share. I can't say for certain on Linux, but with a Windows install Serviio runs as a system service, which doesn't have network access permissions by default. it works much better to change the user account that Serviio uses to run. Again, I don't have enough Linux knowledge to tell you have to check this and make changes if necessary.

OK, if mediaBrowser sees the media, then we know it's being scanned correctly by Serviio. So the problem is why isn't the TV seeing it in the listing. There are two different Philips profiles included with Serviio. So let's determine which profile you are using. Look in the Serviio console, and on the Status page is a list of devices found on your network. Find your TV in the list and tell us which profile has been assigned. If it's the Generic profile, try changing it to either of the Philips profiles. If it's already using one of them, try the other. If still no success, let's try some of the other TV profiles. There are TV profiles for Sony, Panasonic, Roku, LG, Samsung, and others. Just start experimenting with them. Once we've found one that shows some of your files, then we can go from there.

Also, it would help to get the media information from a couple of your videos. See the link in my signature for retrieving media content information, get the info on a couple of videos, then paste the info here.

I must apologize. I believe English might not be your native language, and I am having trouble following what you said here. If you would like to post in your native language, I can try Google translate to see if that helps me, or perhaps someone else that speaks the same language can assist.

But if I understand, you have enabled detailed logging, but cannot locate the folder containing the logs, or you did find them but need root access to get to them. The files should be in the Serviio install folder, in a subfolder labeled Logs. But perhaps Linux does it differently. I would expect you should have the root password, but I don't have any recent experience with Linux, so perhaps someone else can offer a better response for a Linux install. I believe you have tried Serviio with Windows 10 and are seeing the same results. After that, I am lost in your message. Again, apologies.

I have not used mint but most debian releases keep the logs in this folder for just about every program.

Re: cannot read the folder in linux

Ok, from that list I see the log folder (drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 feb 24 20:12 log). You may need to change permissions on that folder to allow you access without being root, although if I remember correctly it appears that you should have read access regardless of the user. Why is the log directory owner root? I have no idea. Since all the rest are owned by serviio, I would consider doing a chown on that folder.

There should be a file in that folder named serviio.log. That would be a great help to see if there's some sort of error reported. However, if MediaBrowser is working correctly, meaning it shows and plays media, then it would appear that Serviio itself is working correctly. But looking at the log would be a great help.

Re: cannot read the folder in linux

I installed Serviio on a Linux Mint 19 computer yesterday. I noticed that initially the Log folder did not exist. However, as soon as I got it up and running (had to play with the Java versions first), Serviio created the log folder and the serviio.log file was created and populated. As near as I can tell, Serviio is working as expected on Linux Mint 19. I am having a Samba issue trying to link to my media folders on a Windows 7 PC, but that has nothing to do with Serviio. So, the log file is where it is supposed to be. If it's not there for you, I can't say what the issue is. Perhaps a clean removal of Serviio, reboot, and then a fresh install.

I changed the Serviio folder ownership from root simply because I didn't want to always have to mess with permissions while I tinker with Serviio. But it does not appear to be necessary.
