Code for Panasonic BDT110 to play DTS files on DLNA

Hi,
The Panasonic plays discs very well.
I would like to play my DTS movies via Serviio Server but the player does not play "cannot play" message comes up.
Is there a code that can be implemented so it will play DTS?
Please help

Re: Code for Panasonic BDT110 to play DTS files on DLNA

I'm assuming you are using the "Panasonic BD player" profile. It does have a DTS capture line, but only for H264 video. If your DTS files are from DVD rips, or if it's a Blu Ray rip with DTS Master Audio, there doesn't appear to be a match. Please confirm the codecs within one of your unplayable files and we'll see what can be fixed for you.

Yep, there's the problem. Your first two files have DTS Master Audio, and the Panasonic BD profile does not capture that. Your third file is MPEG-2 video and DTS audio. That also is not captured by the profile.

So, as a test try using the Roku TV profile. It will capture both audio codecs and leave the video alone. That's what you need, the audio only transcoded. Your player will the video just fine for all three. It's just the audio that's tripping it up. It's strange that your player isn't playing the standard DTS audio, but many BD players will not stream DTS Master Audio via DLNA.

And your comment at the bottom of the document about no FF or rewind. Unfortunately, most players cannot do so with transcoded files. The Roku TV profile I suggested you try uses HLS transcoding, and some players will allow FF and rewind with that method. So let us know if it works with that one.

Once we've confirmed that those videos play with the Roku TV profile, then we can create a user profile for you to use to best match up with your player.

Re: Code for Panasonic BDT110 to play DTS files on DLNA

Well, it seems the Panasonic player doesn't care for HLS transcoding. We'll have to try something different. I'm at work now, so don't have access to the profiles file to look for a different one to try. You could experiment with some other profiles, just as a test. There's several Sony player profiles that might help.

But the jerkiness you are seeing puzzles me. I'm wondering if you're having network issues. Are you hard wired or using WiFi?

Re: Code for Panasonic BDT110 to play DTS files on DLNA

Here's one you could try: "Philips (2010-)". This profile captures DTS and DTS HD audio and transcodes it to Dolby Digital. Doesn't touch the video. And it's using the TS container, which should be fine for your BD player.

After that, we'd probably have to begin experimenting with a custom built profile, but we really need to find one first that handles at least some to most of your files as a starting point.

Hi Dan,
I tried all the Sony profiles and does not work.
Just tried Philips 2010 and still "Cannot play" shows up.
I will wait your next advice.

Hi,
Just to be clear, you said ""Philips (2010-)". This profile captures DTS and DTS HD audio and transcodes it to Dolby Digital."
I do not want the DTS to be converted to Dolby Digital. I want original DTS to be played back as DTS or DTS HD as it may be.
Perhaps I was not clear on this at the start.

Re: Code for Panasonic BDT110 to play DTS files on DLNA

OK, we have to find out why a Blu Ray player that supports all of these codecs is refusing top play almost anything. I think we need a detailed log showing an attempt to play something that doesn't work.

Switch back to the Panasonic BD profile, stop the Serviio service, enable detailed logging, delete your log file so we have a clean log, then start the Serviio service back up and try to play something you know doesn't play. Then stop the service, zip up the log file, disable detailed logging and start Serviio again. Then upload that log here and I'll see if I can spot something. I'm not an expert at examining the log, but I'll give it a shot.

All of that I just typed is much easier to do that you'd think looking at the instructions. Trust me, you can do it. :)

Re: Code for Panasonic BDT110 to play DTS files on DLNA

Please find attached the debug log file. I first tried to play a video with transcoding turned on which works but only with DD5.1. Then the same video again with transcoding turned off which results in an error message "Cannot Play" on the blu-ray player.
Thanks for any and all help given on this.

OK, I see the playback of Master and Commander with transcoding in the log, apparently working correctly. You say it works transcoded with DD5.1. That's the way it's supposed to work. Your audio cannot be transcoded into DTS, so DD is what you should see. With the transcoding disabled, I would expect it to not work.

So, what I'm looking for is a video that still won't play with transcoding enabled.

Looking at your previous quote, maybe we're having a communications issue between us. You said
I want original DTS to be played back as DTS or DTS HD as it may be.
If your player won't support DTS over DLNA, there's no way to play your videos with DTS audio. They have to be transcoded to DD. I downloaded the users manual for your player, but unfortunately they don't list what codecs are supported. But it sounds like it doesn't support DTS in any flavor over DLNA, and there's nothing we can do about that.

Re: Code for Panasonic BDT110 to play DTS files on DLNA

1. Thank you for stating that Panasonic BDT110 will not play back DTS on DLNA. I did read the manual and it was clear that it will play DTS discs but I could not find where it clearly says it will not play DTS on DLNA.
Thank you for helping me on this subject.
2. Could you point me to the direction I should be looking to solve : When Paused, it cannot be resumed, have to start from beginning; Can FF but does not resume and Cannot Forward to Chapters.
Any help will be welcome.

When you say pause, do you mean playback stopped and you are attempting to resume where you stopped, or just pausing playback with an image on the screen? For transcoded files, things like resume, chapter select and FF (usually referred to as trick play) generally aren't available. Depending on the player and the format used for transcoding, sometimes trick play can work, but with the limited functionality your player seems to have it's unlikely it will work.

Sorry for the late response.
Yes. When playing a Blu Ray disc or DVD, it can be paused and resume, Fast Forward and Skip chapters, that's what I mean.
Say if I went for a KODI box like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Android-T9-RK3 ... 636&sr=8-1 ; will it allow the full functions I listed?
Advice is very welcome.

Yes, when files are transcoded and streamed via DLNA those trick play functions generally aren't available. I use Kodi on an Nvidia Shield and all of those functions are available. That's because the Shield (which is an Android box) has support for all of the codecs and containers that I use. I can't say for certain that any Android box will do the same, but chances are good. It will certainly support far more than your Panasonic BD player.
