help with possible profile change?

i am using the latest 1.3.1 serviio.. here is my setup and my problem. first off i am newb here.. i do have enough knowledge to open and change the profile but no idea what to change it too. i do know where to find the certain profiles also, like for my samsung e series lcd.

but anyway here is my problem.
i am playing to my samsung un55es7500 from serviio from my pc and i have tried using encoding and not to use encoding to fix this. when i play mp4 aac or ac-3 files they are output in stereo only? why am i not getting 5.1 from those two codecs? .. they are 5.1 files because if i do an information on my avr it shows dd5.1 but is only outputting at stereo. all other files work great.

thanks for any help.

Re: help with possible profile change?

ok better tell you my connections.
i am streaming via wireless from pc to tv and i have tv connected to avr via a hdmi cable and it is working via arc (audio return channel) and yes it returns to avr in dd5.1 so it is not the arc channel and hdmi connection. it works just fine.
i had a feeling someone was going to ask this.

also i dont have downmix to stereo checked.

Re: help with possible profile change?

yes, someone will ask it cos it is important part :)
i don't have experience with HDMI and arc's, but I have Samsung UE46ES6800 which is connected via optical cable to my old 5.1 Sony receiver and TV is sending (Servio's) 5.1 channels to it properly.
What is important: select SPDIF output of TV (audio format in menu) to DolbyDigital or DTS properly otherwise it will be selected PCM and no multichanel forwarded to receiver.
That happens to me, TV remember's last selection (DD or DTS) and you need not to select it again (if hasn't changed), but if next move is in other format, you HAVE to select it properly or only PCM (aka only stereo) will be forwarded to receiver.

Maybe it is same story with HDMI, please check and write your results here.

Re: help with possible profile change?

ok just figured it out.. you are correct about the spdif output on my tv.. i have to set the sound settings on my tv to pcm before all speakers start working, but for optimal sound shouldnt that be set to dolby digital? if i set that to dolby digital then i only get stereo sound. i think it has to do with a couple of the settings in the profile. in particular, the settings that say if "mp4 set to lpcm"? how would i change that to output aac5.1 or ac-3 5.1? or do i want to change it? you would think output from tv to avr would sound better at dolby digital instead of pcm?
thanks

Re: help with possible profile change?

in serviio choose Samsung C/D/E default profile. On TV, in menu, Sound Settings, spdif, I choose DD or DTS not PCM. PCM is only stereo.
Try with optical cable, maybe TV is always passsing only stereo through HDMI? I don't know cos I can't try it.

Re: help with possible profile change?

anything other than mp4 i can select dobly digital or dts and sound works fine. it is only mp4 that is doing this. the hdmi is working as it should be.
when it is mp4 video i can only get all 5 speakers working by selecting pcm. when dobly digital is selected then its only stereo sound.

i pass dd5.1 through the hdmi from serviio all the time.. it is not the hdmi setup.

Return to Samsung
