New Serviio Install - Problems - Subs/ff/Media Browser

I recently got fed up with PS3mediaserver and decided to try Serviio. Since I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 I also compiled and installed ffmpeg, LAME, and libRTMP 2.4 from the source files listed. My (2) renderers are a PN59D6500 TV and a C-5500 BD player. Noth connect to the router over 5ghz 802.11N. My server is a old P4 2.8Ghz with 1GB ram

1.) I know a lot has been written about ff/rw, but I have many files that ff/rw fine under ps3mediaserver and now do not. I'm familiar with mkvmerge, etc. but I have over 1000 MKVs easily and batching them all inst practical. So could my problem be something else?\ since ff/rw worked fine on all files via PMS? Also same files ff/rw fine over USB. (when i say ff/rw I mean using the directional keys as I have never been able to use the actual ff/rw buttons)

2.) I also have read a lot about subtitles. One of the reasons I tried Serviio was b/c on the features page is mentions subtitles with samsung renderers. Are these only external subs? I read a lot but couldn't find mention of my TV (which plays emebedded subs over usb). I also saw something about extracting subs on the fly as a possible future feature in an old post did that ever happen?

3.) I can not get Media Browser to play any files. I get an error like this -
200, Stream not found, NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound, clip: '[Clip] 'http://ross.org.org:23424/cds/resource/1720/MEDIA_ITEM/FLV-0/LOW,flv_player?authToken=c79505d9401b4d85b42d04e6e0f867de''
I have ports 23424TCP 8895tcp 1900udp all forwarded to the servers IP.

4.) My last issues is with transcoding. I know my rig is no where near powerful enough to transcode 1080p streams on the fly, but I will be building a whole new server with that intention in the next month. My question is do all transcoding option have to be configured through XML profiles b/c in the console GUI I couldn't seem to understand what the options were. I would like to if possible set up some remuxing for now.

Thank you!!

Interesting. It might be due to a different mime-type used, different transcoding settings or similar. The only way we could figure it out is if you could capture the network traffic (Wireshark) between the TV and PS3MS when browsing to the file and playing (only 1 sec or so) and comparing it to the same on Serviio. Can you do that?

Serviio supports external .srt subs. Embedded subtitles support is up to the renderer and transcoding profile (ie if the file is not delivered natively embedded subs will be lost). Samsung profile doesn't transcode much so if the TV supports it (over DLNA) it should work.
Burn-in subtitles are not implemented yet.

If you try it again and the try to open the URL in a browser / VLC - does it connect? If not it'll be down to the network setup. If yes post the detailed log.

Transcoding is set up only in profiles.xml. The Samung profiles are pretty good already and remux when possible.
