Choppy playback on Sony BDV-E570 Blu-Ray

Hi and thank you ahead of time for any help you might give!

I've been using Serviio to stream (to my Sony BDV-E570 Blu-Ray) TV shows I record on my computer's TV Tuner (HD digital recordings MPEG-2 .ts files). Up until this week, I have had no playback problems. Now every show I watch gets "choppy" or "stuttering" video within a short time of starting. I have no problems streaming online videos, just my own recordings. I was storing the videos on an external hard drive, then switched to my computer's main drive and still choppy.

My computer is connected directly to my cable modem, and my Blu-Ray player is connected wirelessly.

My computer info:
Dell XPS M1530
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7500 @ 2.20GHz
Memory (RAM) 3.00 GB
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
Windows Vista (TM) Home Premium
System type 32-bit operating system

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Wireless....have you run a ethernet cable to see if you still get the problem ? It could be wifi interference or degrading your signal.

Re: Choppy playback on Sony BDV-E570 Blu-Ray

Thanks for the suggestion, I don't have the ability to run an ethernet cable to the player. However, after reading your post it dawned on me that my wireless antenna connected to my Blu-Ray player could have been moved while adjusting the TV antenna. I played around with the antenna on my player, to see if maybe I could get a better signal in a different location. So far I found a good spot and it seemed to help. I'll keep you posted. Thank you for the tip! I didn't really think of it because it was working fine for so long.

You might want to think about homeplugs, its abour £30 on Amazon for 200mbps units and then you'd not get this problem at all.

Re: Choppy playback on Sony BDV-E570 Blu-Ray

Follow up on this topic:

In case anyone else runs into this problem (bad WIFI signal). I learned after doing a little research into my Dual-band router that the 5GHz band, while probably better for video streaming, does reach as far as the 2.4GHz band. I had my Blu-Ray player connected to the 5GHz band, and because of the distance from my router, was getting a poor signal (bet. 30-40%. My router is on the second floor, and my TV is on the first floor). Once I switched to the 2.4GHz band, my signal strength increased to between 65%-75%). No more choppy playback.

Yep, 5GHz signals don't penetrate building materials as easily as 2.4GHz.
