Sony Stuttering Cured!

I have done a lot of research using different file types in order to get to the bottom of files stuttering. It appears the DLNA bandwidth has been limited to 20Mbps to prevent decent blu-ray movies over DLNA (possible anti-piracy from Sony). I installed WD TV Live and nearly every one of my movies now plays without stutter through HDMI.
The only files that still stutter have True HD 7 or 8 channels which exceeds the 50Mbps of the WD TV Live (over twice that of DLNA). I suppose these may be playable on a more expensive media streamer, but ripping the audio to a lesser type (I don't have an audio system that can utilise these sound tracks) means they too play.
For some reason though, my AVI files (old TV programs) do not work through the WD TV Live, but work fine through my Sony BD-S580 player.
A lot of time spent wasted on trying to get DLNA to work through Serviio. I certainly don't think I'll invest in Sony again, unitl DLNA 2 comes out that solves the bitrate anti-piracy strangulation.

Re: Sony Stuttering Cured!

Funny I was just looking into this stuff as I want to stream native bluray rips but those push 45+mb which the Sony obviously can't do.

I have been wondering what options can and it seems you gave me one. Any others that would work that you know of?

There are 'better' media streamers available using the later chipsets, but the bitstream rates for these seem to be the same as for WDTV, and they are far more expensive. You might need something faster if you intend streaming blu-ray directly, and you need to check the box can do this - not many can. I am using MKV and M2TS rips. You might want to look at Popcorn and Dune, they seem to get good reviews.

Yeah right now all my movies are ripped to MKV even the blu rays - so it's not really playing blurays directly its just about being able to handle the high bitrates of the native rip of the movie into MKV

What kind of nonsense is that? Im also playing those files on my Bravia TV (HX820) and it works just fine and will go over 45mb whenever needed without a problem.
Playing a full bluray disc from Serviio also works without any hickups.

Also FYI, DLNA bandwidth isnt limited to 20mb/s at least i've did a bunch of tests and the TV I have goes upto 90mb/s without a problem.

Did you double check your network settings and make sure everything is connected by wire? as Wifi might be a problem.

It's quite puzzling me to - it's all connected over wire and a gigE switch. The dvd players just don't seem to have enough power to keep up? I have a 480 and a 370 and the problem shows on both.

Yes, me too, with my Sony bravia 2010, 20-25mb/s seems to be the limit.

FYI, DLNA specify that for example :
AVC_TS_MP_SD_AC3 profile is limited at 12Mbps
AVC_TS_MP_HD_AC3 profile is limited at 25Mbps
AVC_TS_HP_HD_AC3_T profile is limited at 33Mbps
