Sony BDP-S590 AVI files not playing

I think there may be an issue with the Sony BD Player/SMP profile.

I have Serviio 1.1 installed on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and I have it set up to stream videos to a Sony BDP-S590 US with the latest firmware update.

When I set everything up, Serviio detected the 590 and automatically specified the Sony BD Player/SMP profile. Only MKV files play on the Sony with this profile (no AVI file will play on the 590). The AVI files are visible on the 590 but when I try to play any of them, the 590 says they are corrupted. They play just fine on the 590 when I use WMP to stream. Also, if I change the Serviio profile of the 590 to Sony Bravia TV (2012) - US, the AVI files play on the 590.

What needs to be changed in the Sony BD Player/SMP profile? I took a peak in the file but I don't know what to edit.

Re: Sony BDP-S590 AVI files not playing

Hi, I have the Sony S490 and also use the default sony bdp profile and have the same problem as you , divx files arent supported, however if I use the sony bravia 2012 profile everything plays but! files with the M2TS play in a 16:9 reduced screen?

I just find it strange that the M2TS files play full screen using the sony BDP profile but do not when using the bravia 2012, any ideas anyone!!

Re: Sony BDP-S590 AVI files not playing

I had maintained the Sony BDP Serviio profile for some time but have sadly lacked the time to keep up with the newer products. I have a BDP-S490 for testing and now that I have updated the Synology NAS Serviio package to version 1.1, fixing the BDP profile is my next priority.

The issue is that the older BDPs played all types of AVI files, whereas the newer ones will play Xvid but not DivX. Serviio 1.1 allows different transcode behaviour to be specified for particular FourCC codes so this should be fairly straightforward to fix. The snag is that there is currently no good way of autodetecting the different BDP models - they all present the same DLNA ID.

So we have to create multiple profiles and users have to manually select the good one.
