Files and folders not showing

For the last six days (since the 22nd July) any files that I have added to currently shared folders are not showing on Serviio.

For instance on the 21st I downloaded the latest episode Of Masterchef to a file on an internal hard drive on my PC. I switch on the tele' and navigate to the appropriate folder find the new MC download and it plays, no worries. the next day and subsequent days since I have downloaded new episodes of MC in the same way as the previous 50 odd episodes but they don't show in Serviio.

I have also added several movies to a pre-existing movie file where I have many shared movies and the new ones either don't show up at all or I can see and open the file but the movie doesn't appear. Oddly if there is a file within the file with a sample of the movie that will show and play.

The same thing has happened with several new series, I can see the containing file but not the contents as when I open the file it appears empty in Serviio.

To clarify; any files that were on my PC prior to the 22nd show and play as normal subsequently nothing will play unless I put it on a flash drive or a portable HDD.

I was wondering if anyone had encountered this before I start messing around to much. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What OS? Sounds like maybe it's a file permissions problem with the new files. And maybe the portable HDD is FAT32 and which has no file permissions security features - hence is working.

I am running Win 7 Ultimate and the new files are being loaded into already shared files, the permissions on these files haven't been changed.

The portable HDD's are all 64 Bit as 32 Bit can't accommodate files larger than 4GB and most of my movies are greater than 6GB.

It seems that the fault is with a windows critical update that occurred on the 21st of the month. Once I restored to the the day before the update everything has returned to normal. I wonder if anyone else will experience this or similar due to Windows updates?

At least I know the cause of the problem now I just need to hunt down the particular update and avoid installing it.
