Serviio a 64 bit application or 32bit

I know that 64bit environments can run 32bit apps, I get that. I'm just curious If there are 2 install packages. The stuff I've looked up on this are vague. I wanted to make 100% sure I have the right version installed. Serviio is great I only have the occasional issue with it.

There's only one version for each OS. It installs itself in the 64 bit Program Files folder, but it includes the 32 bit version of FFMPEG. I would not call it a true 64 bit app, as I'm sure Zip was trying to avoid any more versions than he already supports. Since so many people don't even know what version OS they are using, it's best to stick with 32 bit.

That said, if you update FFMPEG to a 64 bit version, Serviio still runs just fine and the computer seems to like it better. When transcoding I see a little lower CPU utilization with 64 bit.

atc98092 I just saw Serviio in the 64bit folder thank you for that. As for FFMPEG I don't see that installed on my system. How do I verify that and upgrade it? I am currently using WS2012 Essentials R2.

Serviio installs its own version of FFMPEG, and it's located in the Serviio folder under "lib". Just rename the existing ffmpeg.exe and copy the latest 64 bit version in the same folder. All done!

what should I expect when I do this? what was your outcome? did it help with anything at all? CPU usage reliability anything. Im just wondering what I should expect. Ill probably do this as soon as my company leaves. I hate to break their TV watching enjoyment.

I see a slight reduction in CPU usage, and I've had an occasional video that would buffer on the Roku using 32 bit, but played smoothly with 64 bit FFMPEG. I have no idea if FFMPEG knows how to use memory more effectively under 64 bit, but my results seem to show it. Also, I've never encountered a downside to it. That said, I don't have anything particularly unusual about my videos. They're almost all MKV or M2TS containers with Mpeg2, H264, AVC or MP4 video and Dolby Digital or DTS audio. The Blu-Ray rips are mostly DTS Master Audio, with a few Dolby Digital TrueHD.

That is awesome. My family leaves in a day or 2 so this is on the top of my list to try. I appreciate your incite. My videos basically line up to yours except your audio is way better.
