Performance problems - advice please

Having now got serviio installed on Fedora 17 and working I added the plugins and attempted to add a couple of BBC Iplayer streams and this is where I seem to start having problems with performance. On more than one occasion the console has seemed to hang on clicking save, nothing happens and the button stays 'in'. Left it for several minutes and it stays hung. I also noticed that my AMD Quad core seems extraordinarily busy with java running at 70%, nothing else much is running and when I kill serviio and the console CPU all goes back to normal about 4-5% busy in total. This has happened more than once having added a couple of BBC Iplayer resources (some apparently correct ones from the forum which others say work). Serviio logs dont show anything in the way of errors and just a whole load of stuff about scanning my images files.

Now I guess this could all be something I'm missing but being new to this program I'm not sure what I may have done wrong. Performance did not seem bad until I added the plugins and added the BBC Iplayer resources, but I can see nothing in the log about these resources.

Any ideas please?

Enable detailed logging then restart serviio.

Re: Performance problems - advice please

Well debug showed me I had set the Iplayer stuff to web resource and not RSS. This kind of stuff is not obvious to a newbie like me, since you are inputting an http protocaol. Anyway so far no hang yet but more testing to do, however it does seem to be a bit of a resource hog on CPU even when no clients connected with it using about 20+% of a quad core.

I'll do some more testing and see how it goes.

Re: Performance problems - advice please

Done a bit more testing and also tried the web console which seems to me to be very fast. CPU usage dropped now everything has started up and refreshed everything. It does seem to take quite a long time for all this to happen when I boot up the machine. I'm very glad to have a fast PC because I'd fear that on anything much slower I would be waiting ages trying to do anything else.

There does seem to be quite a lot of functionality in serviio and for now I'm not sure I need it for my use, in future when we get our new smart TV in the new year I'll probably have another go.

I do have yet to find one Android player which will play everything which both serviio and mediatomb can throw at it, so far I'm missing sound in BBC IPlayer stuff using MX Player but VLC works fine (on Android) and VLC wont play my quicktime movies from my Canon camera but MX Player will (again on Android).

I do have the same problem here. Performance is terrible on fedora 17 comparing to windows 7.
Is there anything I can do to solve this issue?

install htop and run htop and see what is using all your resources.
