Mediabrowser doesn't show movies

Hi,
I'm not sure if there is already a topic on this one, I couldn't find it anyway.

I have installed the new version of Serviio and I am going to buy it. However, it was not working as it should, so what to do.

This was my problem, first what was not my problem, I could login, play music and view photo's. Than I got to the movies. All kind of stuff, from .ts files and .mkv to small clips that friends sometimes send to me by mail. A lot of different formats.
With all of them, I saw the 'thumbnail' of the movie/clip. When I started one, the popup with the Flowplayer came up.
It displayed different kinds of data, like title, resolution and summary.
When I pressed the play 'button' a circle is shown that is going round and round and round and, well, it kept on going round and nothing else.

I have tried this on three computers, all have Windows 7 (two are 32 bit, one is 64 bit), all have IE9 installed and Java 6 with Flash Player 11 ActiveX (11.4.402.265) and Flash Player Plugin (9.0.115.0).

Than I thought that it might not be working with Java 6, although the website told me that it is the minimum requirement (for the console/server to work, no requirement has been given for the Mediabrowser, but I guessed it would be the same for all).
So I installed Java 7 and, guess what, it started to work.

But, I was happy to soon. It's not working again.
So now and again, some clips will start, but most of the time non will start.
I haven't got any idea what to do now.

Any help would be appreciated.

With kind regards,
From the Netherlands,
Hans Dreve

Strange, nothing displayed with all your media ??

Could you provide some information about a media file ? (see my signature link)

Re: Mediabrowser doesn't show movies

You need to generate a debug log to show what is happening when you press play. Your wheel spin is a symptom of ffmpeg failing during the transcode of your movies to flv, but without the log it can't be analysed.

serviio.log
Logfile, Debug mode
(352.64 KiB) Downloaded 538 times

The log file.
I have seen at least one file that I tried to start mentioned in the file.

This is a clean file, I stopped Serviio, cleared the old log, started Serviio again and went to the mediabrowser.

Re: Mediabrowser doesn't show movies

The log shows that you asked to play Barbara Mandrell, and Serviio started to transcode it using this command
  Code:
2012-08-23 21:35:54,031 DEBUG [ProcessExecutor] Starting C:\Program Files\Serviio\bin\\..\lib/ffmpeg.exe -i G:\Muziek\Barbara Mandrell\Barbara Mandrell D02 E02.mpg -y -copyts -c:v flv -sameq -vf scale=720:540,setsar=1 -r 30000/1001 -g 15 -c:a libmp3lame -b:a 192k -ar 44100 -ac 2 -map 0:0 -map 0:1 -sn -f flv C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\Serviio\transcoding-temp-141517-flv_player-ORIGINAL.stf

and then 41 seconds later Serviio shut down with a bunch of unrelated error messages, but I don't know what they mean. Guess that's why it didn't play.

Maybe the problem is your flashplayer plugin being version 9 when the current level is 11.3.300.271 Sorry I can't be of more help.

Re: Mediabrowser doesn't show movies

Thanks for your effort so far.

I have looked into the flash pluginn, but I guess that the player uses the ActiveX version.
There are two Flash items, Flash Player 11 ActiveX (11.4.402.265) and Flash Player Plugin (9.0.115.0).
When I right click on the player and ask for info about Flash, it is telling me that it is 11.4.402.265, so that should be the correct (latest) version.

I'm going to remove all of Serviio now from my server, make sure that all is gone, than install it again and let it make a new DB. This is an upgrade from the beta, maybe something went wrong there.

I'll report back when I have done this and what the results are.

I thought that it might be the second NIC I have installed in the server, but with shutting that down, restarting the Serviio service, it didn't have any effect.
On the server BTW I have Java 7 installed, in case that could be an issue.
It runs on Windows Server 2003.

Again, thanks for now and if anyone else is having the same problems, and found the reason, please leave a message here!

Re: Mediabrowser doesn't show movies

Hi All,

Well, I am going to give up.
It won't work and I think it will never work. At least not for me.

On 5 different computers, no result. One I have installed with new Windows 7 and just Flash, nothing else. No result.
Next I installed Serviio on a different computer, Windows 7 and not 2003.
All works fine, but the stream to the mediabrowser, same problem. Not working.

I have no idea what could be the issue.

When I take the line from the debug log and I run it from the command line, all is working fine, I see ffmpeg working and in the TEMP dir the converted file is showing.

Thanks to those who looked into this and if anyone ever has any idea what is going wrong and has the answer, well than we will see if that is going to work.

Regards,

Hans

Re: Mediabrowser doesn't show movies

Small update;

I installed Serviio on my laptop, i7 Quad Core, 8 Gb memory, 64 bit Win 7.
And yes, result, but not for long.

When I start a movie, I see up to 3 seconds and then it stops again, with the turning circle.

That is the third computer where I installed the software on and where the mediabrowser isn't working.
I'm starting to think I'm not doing anything wrong, that this is a bug in the software, that only pop's up when you use i.e. a Dutch Windows.
That's the only thing I cannot test, an English Windows version.

Re: Mediabrowser doesn't show movies

Try copying and renaming the stf file from the transcode subdir to mpg and see if it will play on your tv.

Re: Mediabrowser doesn't show movies

That will have to wait until tomorrow.
For testing I had added everyting, after the re-install, in a random order.
I have deleted all and added it again in the right order (folders).
It's now busy adding all the files to the DB. I think that could take 10-15 hours (I've got a lot).

All other installs on other computers I have removed.

Keep you informed as soon as the adding has finished.

Re: Mediabrowser doesn't show movies

Update:
I had some STF files left in a Temp folder.
Renamed them to MPG and opened them with VLC Player. They play normal.
TV I can test after all has been imported and I have add a test folder with the converted files, renamed to MPG.

Re: Mediabrowser doesn't show movies

Hi,

Sorry that it took some extra day's. Had a lot of overtime at the office.

To answer your question, if I rename the files to MPG, I can play them on my TV, so they get converted the right way.
Somewhere during streaming it is going wrong.

I have found one file, that I could stream one time. Since then it also doesn't do anything.

My guess is that it has got something to do with the language, I use Dutch software. But I'm not sure how I could test this.
Also I don't know it this is a problem with the server being Dutch or the workstation or maybe both.

Re: Mediabrowser doesn't show movies

Update:
I found an English (US English) server. Forgot I still had it standing here.

Installed Java on it and Serviio.
Problem with looking on the server is that the highest version of IE for Server 2003 is 8, but it works, more or less.

Same is happening on that server as on every other machine. Nothing or near to nothing.
Also on that machine I found one file that played, but only once. The second time (and third and so on) nothing.

I tried to remove Java 7 and installed Java 6 (still available from Java.com), but also that didn't worked.
I also made sure I installed the English version of the Java software and Flash (both on the server).

What else to try? Any ideas?

Oh, and I tried each time also different files, so it's not a problem with just one file.

I think that I'm the unlucky one for who it never will work, I don't know what I am doing wrong.
Who knows, with the next update that it will work, I don't know.

But again, if anyone has any idea to try, please let me know (that is, if the trial period hasn't expired by that time).

By the way, could that be the problem? That there is no licence key installed, that there is something in it that holds playback? Just a thought.
I don't want to invest 25 dollars into something that isn't working, but if that is what it takes, just let me know, than I'll order a licence key.

Thanks!

Hans

Re: Mediabrowser doesn't show movies

Are you running the mediabrowser on the same machine as Serviio? What browser are you using? Try using Chrome. and capture and post the debug log you get. Also did those converted mpg files play with the mediabrowser? Try one of those in your test and post the debug log.

I have also found that mediabrowser sometimes will play a file, but if I try to replay it the wheel just spins. Are you failing with the first playback of a file or only when you try and replay a file?

Re: Mediabrowser doesn't show movies

I'm using the mediabrowser on another machine, because on the server I cannot get IE9. But if I try it on the server (I did) on IE8, I get the same result.
On all of my machines I'm using IE9 (exept for the servers, who have IE8 installed). All with the latest version of Flash installed and all Windows updates. The servers I have running are on Win 2003 (two are Dutch, one US English), my workstations are all with Win 7 (one on 64 bit, the others on 32 bit). I have no workstation with another OS, ie XP or Linux.

I have tried it with Firefox (not with Chrome yet), but there I'm not getting the play button. Downloaded the newest version of Firefox.

Sometimes, when I try to play a file (first time), it is starting. After that, when I press the play button again, nothing happens, although one time it started for the second time, but not eversince. Sometimes it plays 1 or 2 seconds and than stalls with the circle going round and round.
But what happens most of the time, nothing.

In a few moments I'm out to the office again (they need me, oh dear...), so I will try Chrome tomorrow and then with DEBUG on.

The files BTW that I retreived from the TEMP folder (that where converted for use in the Flash player) did play on the TV, but again not on the Flash player (Mediabrowser).

Re: Mediabrowser doesn't show movies

Update: I had some time left, so in short what I have been doing.

Installed Chrome. Works, no problems so far.
Restarted computer and Firefox started to show the play button. Works too, no problems there so far either.
In IE, even with all security off, nothing.

Sometimes, just sometimes, allthough more and more often, I'm starting to dislike Microsoft.

So, now I know that the server seems to be working like it should, it streams to TV, my mobile phone (have a simple player installed that does it very well with low resolution films/clips, processor not fast enough I guess for higher quality like 720p) and in Flash to Chrome and Firefox.

If anyone has any idea what box to tick (or untick) in the settings of the awfull piece of sh... sorry, software (IE9), please let me know!

Tomorrow I'm going to buy the licence key, for now I'll just use Firefox (I'm not such a friend of Google...). Maybe one day it will work in IE as well.

Thanks for the tip!

Re: Mediabrowser doesn't show movies

I have tried it with Firefox (not with Chrome yet), but there I'm not getting the play button.

Turns out this is a bug in the Flashplayer plugin starting with 262 (see http://mzl.la/LA0mpi), if you have RealPlayer installed with the Download feature enabled.

The fix is to disable the feature, use the debug version of flash 11.3.262 or revert to 11.2.257

I am using the debug version of 262.

Don't know why it started for you on restart. Maybe the flash problem has been fixed.

OK, IMHO that is a Serviio bug. You can read more about it at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7138. I have had success in replaying by waiting at least a minute before replaying, but it can take longer. I think restarting Serviio resets everything so first plays will work again.

On all of my machines I'm using IE9 (exept for the servers, who have IE8 installed).
Mediabrowser is not supported on IE8 and under IE9 you must not be in compatibility mode. I just use Firefox and Chrome.

Re: Mediabrowser doesn't show movies

I'm not using the realplayer, so that hasn't been the problem.
Most likely is that Flash was already installed when I installed Firefox and that Firefox didn't see Flash correct. But it's working now.

The problem has now been isolated to IE9. No matter what I try, it has problems with playing films/clips.

For now I'm not that worried about it, I can use the mediabrowser with Firefox.
I know that there are more scripts that won't work properly on IE9.

Maybe that an update of Serviio fixes this problem. Maybe it's the same problem as what is in the thread you send in your last post.

Okay, the boss is coming, got to get back to work.

Thanks!
