[SOLVED] High CPU usage on Mac

I'm using Serviio 1.0.1 on a Mac.

I think I'm having a problem with the library indexing. Normally Serviio uses a lot of CPU when I first start it up, then it drops back to zero after a few minutes. But now for some reason it's using 100% CPU constantly after several days of running. Serviio Console shows the green light "Checking for new files".

Other than the CPU usage, everything else appears to be working fine. If I add new media files, Serviio finds them within a few minutes, and all the videos play fine.

The CPU usage has never spiked for this long. Even when I add a new media folder with thousands of files it usually only takes a few hours.

Oh, here's another clue. If I run Serviio Console and select "Exit Serviio" from the menu bar the app freezes and I have to force quit. Usually when I do this Serviio and Serviio Console quit gracefully. When I restart Serviio (even after a reboot) the CPU usage again spikes to 100% and stays there for days.

It seems like it's stuck in a loop. Any idea what's going on?

Possibly a dodgy plugin.

Re: High CPU usage on Mac

I already emptied out the plugins folder a few days ago, but that didn't help. Today I removed all the online sources (I was only using 2 of them), but that doesn't seem to have helped either.

When I try to shut it down, I see this in the log:

2012-10-29 00:09:07,722 WARN [IndexedDiskCache] Region [thumbnails] Disk cache not shutdown properly, shutting down now.
2012-10-29 00:09:07,722 WARN [IndexedDiskCache] Region [online_technical_metadata] Disk cache not shutdown properly, shutting down now.

That's where it hangs and I have to force quit.

I guess the next step might be to reinstall and let it rebuild the library index from scratch. I'll try that tomorrow.

Re: High CPU usage on Mac

This turned out to be a problem with a bad movie file. I kept the log open during indexing and I noticed that it kept "hanging" after adding the same file, so I removed that particular folder and the indexing completed normally and the CPU dropped back to zero. I added back the movies in that folder one by one until I hit one that caused the "hang" again. I don't know what's wrong with the movie (it plays fine in vlc and mplayer), but as long as I keep it away from Serviio everything is back to normal.

You can probably contact Zip and share somewhere your file for investigation.
