Sony TV 2010, 2011 or 2012 profile?

I have a Sony KDL-32EX503 wired (2010 profile) and a Sony KDL-22EX320 wifi (2011 profile) on Serviio 1.1 and for the most part xvid/divx/H.264 AVC AVI's, MP4's and some MKV's (including HD formats on these containers) play without trouble. I usually don't need to think about how or what has been used to encode them - if I do have playback issues I would just re-encode.

Recently I have acquired a large set of avi files (Codec 4CC: XVID, 480x366 1:1 29.970fps, MP3, Stereo 128kps 48000Hz) which would take too long to re-encode. When sent to the KDL-22EX320 (2011 profile) it returns a message 'playback not available'. But when sent to the KDL32EX503 (2010 profile) they play fine. So the simple solution was change the 22EX320 to the 2010 profile and they now play fine.

What profile should the 22EX320 be on? why do they play on the 2010 profile but not the 2011 profile?

Other typical problems on both TV's HD or othrwise:

MP4 - Sound is quite often out of sync, or file doesn't play at all.
MKV - Gives me the most trouble either sound with no video, video with no sound, or just doesn't play at all.
AVI - Normally not an issue.

Any advice thanks in advance.

Sony Bravia 2011 models support AVI in native (with some restriction*), so serviio 2011 profile does not transcode avi file but delivered them in native format.
Sony Bravia 2010 models does not support AVI, so serviio 2010 profile transcode them in mpegts/mpeg2video/ac3 format.

* restriction known : AVI video Restrictions(>2011 serie): DivX Home Theater 3.0 only in SD resolution, Xvid are supported with QPEL = No and GMC : 0 / No warppoints, some fourCC are not supported, changed fourCC with : XVID

So your new avi files are transcoded for your 2010 model (play fine), but are delivered in native format for your 2011 model (does not play).
Why on 2011 models it does not play ? probably due to sony device restriction on avi codec used...
- One solution is to manually change profile to 2010 for avi files that failed to play, then serviio will also transcode file for your 2011 model.
- Or reencode files with a codec settings supported by sony device.
- Or find what is the problem on your avi files and check if serviio/ffmpeg can detect such restriction...
