[SOLVED] SONY Bravia KDL46-W5100 Supported ?

Just installed serviio trial version to use on my SONY Bravia KDL-46W5100 model. After install I see the TV was found and shows in the list correctly as Sony Bravia KDL46 (2009), but has an orange-colored dot next to it. What does that indicaator mean ?? Also, when I attempted to access video files the message returned says "No files to display". Is this a compatibility or server access issue ?
Thanks

Does the library build process has finished?
Do you select the proper Sony XMB menu (Video for video, Music for audio...) ?

Re: SONY Bravia KDL46-W5100 Supported ?

All libraries were copied, install completed and server started. I do not see a green dot for connection to the TV.
SONY user FAQ fo KDL-46W5100 says that Serviio is a compatible UPnP DLNA server. That's why I tried the trial version.
The orange dot I see is not consistent with your FAQ which says the sever was not recognized. Do you have any data that says this TV will not work with your product?

HAve you got a firewall running ? Try turning it off for 10 minutes and testing serviio again.

Re: SONY Bravia KDL46-W5100 Supported ?

I'm having similar "no files to display" for movies with my KDL40W5100. Pictures shared via Serviio do display. And my TV is recognized as a Sony Bravia 2009. At the same time my PS3 can see/stream the movie and picture files from Serviio just fine.

note: I have not shared Music/Mp3 files yet, so I don't know if that works.

While trying to follow -> viewtopic.php?f=5&t=19 the TV doesn't show under the list of devices. Searching KDL-40W5100 comes up showing Audio and Image, doesn't list video. Interesting that Serviio and other DLNA media servers show under the TV's video sources list, and the same folders/shares served up via PS3Media server play fine (albeit vertically stretched).

EDIT: update, apparently there are TWO listings at http://www.dlna.org/consumer-home/look- ... uct-search for the KDL-40W5100, one from April 30, 2009 which lists Audio, Image and Video, and another dated 6/3/2009 that only lists Audio and Images.

EDIT2: I just found a few .M2TS files I have in subfolders that DO work. So its the MKV and other extensions that do not appear in the movie list or when looking via folders.

Re: SONY Bravia KDL46-W5100 Supported ?

If found something else out.

Navigating Serviio -> Folders, then looking at each sub folder, I did find some .MKV's which were listed and played. Those MKV files I've found this way have all been HIGH@L5.1 (reported by mediainfo) and DO play properly this way.

Those MKV's with HIGH@L4.1 or HIGH@L4.0 do not show up in the list on Serviio when browsing any way from my KDL40W5100 TV, but do show when doing the same via my Sony 55HX750 TV or my LG BD390 bluray player.

Is there something in the Bravia 2009 that is not properly flagging MKV's that are lower than HIGH@L5.1 to be displayed/transcoded?

SO based on what you linked, shouldn't my MKV's that are 1920x1080 and 1280x720 (as reported by Mediainfo app) be listed when browsing?

Yes, all mkv should be listed when browsing, but some could failed to play due to resolution issue.
Could you enable detailed logging, rename some mkv file and force library scan refresh then post log ?

Problem is, NONE are showing on my KDL40W5100, unless they are HIGH@L5.1 (as reported by Mediainfo). HOWEVER, they all show on my Sony 55HX750, and my LG BD390 when accessing Serviio.

I have just stopped the server, renamed the old log file so I start fresh, edited the log4j.xml file for Debug (per http://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=detail_logging ), restarted the server. Tried browsing Serviio from the 40W5100 under folders. As usual, nothing shows. I stopped serviio, renamed 3 MKV's, and restarted Serviio. In the console, on the Library tab, I hit refresh library.

How long do I need to wait?

Re: SONY Bravia KDL46-W5100 Supported ?

How many renderers did you used and what is the profile selected on serviio console for each one ? ( I see : BRAVIA KDL-46XBR6, BRAVIA KDL-40W5100, BRAVIA KDL-55HX750...)

On serviio console, did you enable "Access Group" feature ? (righ click on device)

Other devices/renderers I have and have tried...
KDL-55HX750 as Sony Bravia TV (2012)
KDL-40W5100 as Sony Bravia TV (2009)
Playstation 3 as Playstation 3
LG BD390 (bluray player) as LG TV/Player
LG BD570 (bluray player) as LG TV/Player

Only the 40W5100 has the problem of not "finding" or listing or showing??? the MKV's. The vast majority of my MKV's are High@L4.1 MKV's. A few that I found which are HIGH@L5.1 do work with the 40W5100, that is they are in the listings and play on the W5100.

If I right click the listing for the 40W5100 in the Serviio console, the pop-up has a check mark next to "Device Allowed" and under Access Group, NO RESTRICTION has a dot next to it.

NOTE: I also have a Sony 46XBR6, but since its DLNA capabilities do not include VIDEO playback, it is not relevant for this discussion.

Re: SONY Bravia KDL46-W5100 Supported ?

Ok thanks.
To be sure... with your KDL-40W5100 as Sony Bravia TV (2009), when you browse on serviio tree (ex:folders), the only mkv that are listed, are high5.1 ones, isn't it ? all others are not listed ?
Or
All mkv are listed when you browsed on serviio tree, but only high5.1 can be played on 40W5100 ?

On the KDL-40W5100, when browsing via folders, the only MKV's listed are the HIGH5.1, and those do play. The non-high5.1 MKV's are not listed.

OK strange... (HIGH5.1 are transcoded to mpeg2video and presented as MPEG_TS_SD_EU resource, other are only remuxed and presented as AVC_TS_HD_50... probably not supported by your device)

What's happen when you manually change profile on serviio console for your 2009 device, for example select "Sony Bravia 2010" or "Sony Bravia 2011" profile ?

When selecting Bravia 2010 or 2011, I get the same results.

Something else I just noticed. I captured some stuff off cable. I have an MKV file made from it. it reports as follows...

  Code:
Format                                   : Matroska
Format version                           : Version 2
File size                                : 32.4 GiB
Duration                                 : 5h 35mn
Overall bit rate mode                    : Variable
Overall bit rate                         : 13.8 Mbps
Encoded date                             : UTC 2012-09-04 04:36:13
Writing application                      : mkvmerge v5.6.0 ('Kenya Kane') built on May 27 2012 16:44:04
Writing library                          : libebml v1.2.3 + libmatroska v1.3.0

Video
ID                                       : 1
Format                                   : MPEG Video
Format version                           : Version 2
Format profile                           : Main@High
Format settings, BVOP                    : Yes
Format settings, Matrix                  : Default
Codec ID                                 : V_MPEG2
Codec ID/Info                            : MPEG 1 or 2 Video

That particular file shows and plays. Is that because its V_MPEG2 rather than V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC like the others (that don't get listed)?

At the same time, an M2TS file I have also isn't found or in the list when browsing folders... its as follows...

  Code:
Format                                   : MPEG-TS
File size                                : 3.68 GiB
Duration                                 : 1h 0mn
Overall bit rate mode                    : Variable
Overall bit rate                         : 8 673 Kbps
Maximum Overall bit rate                 : 18.0 Mbps

Video
ID                                       : 4113 (0x1011)
Menu ID                                  : 1 (0x1)
Format                                   : AVC
Format/Info                              : Advanced Video Codec
Format profile                           : Main@L4.0

And the .MTS video files taken with my Sony HDSR11 camcorder also are not listed when viewing folders with my 40W5100... they are coded as follows...
  Code:
Complete name                            : Y:\Disney2012\00119.MTS
Format                                   : BDAV
Format/Info                              : Blu-ray Video
File size                                : 212 MiB
Duration                                 : 1mn 42s
Overall bit rate mode                    : Variable
Overall bit rate                         : 17.3 Mbps
Maximum Overall bit rate                 : 18.0 Mbps

Video
ID                                       : 4113 (0x1011)
Menu ID                                  : 1 (0x1)
Format                                   : AVC
Format/Info                              : Advanced Video Codec
Format profile                           : High@L4.0
They are AVC, so its posible, like you said this TV might not support AVC?

Looking at this page -> http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/suppor ... KDL40W5100 seems to confirm the 40W5100 has very LIMITED video support. If I'm reading it right, MPEG-2 PS and MPEG-2 TS only?

That being the case, I decided to open the Profiles.XML, take the lines for the "transcode all h264 high/main > level 5" from the BRAVIA TV (2012), paste it into the Bravia 2009 section and tweak it a little as follows...
  Code:
<!-- Transcode all h264 video with HIGH/MAIN > Level 3.9 on MPEG-TS stream with MPEG2VIDEO and ac3 audio transcoding -->
         <!-- expected profile MPEG_TS_SD_EU/MPEG_TS_SD_NA/MPEG_TS_SD_KO -->
         <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" maxVBitrate="17000" targetACodec="ac3" aBitrate="384" DAR="16:9" forceInheritance="true">
            <Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" profile="high" levelGreaterThan="3.9" />
            <Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" profile="main" levelGreaterThan="3.9" />
            <Matches container="mpegts" vCodec="vc1" />
         </Video>

After restarting Serviio, the MKV's show and play on my 40W5100. And while the camcorder video show up now, when I try to play them they are very very choppy and don't look very good.

OK, so all AVC/h264 are not supported and must be transcoded to mpeg2video.

I suggest this "Sony Bravia TV (2009)" profile modification

But with some HD AVC, the CPU load will be very high...

CPU usage doesn't matter, as this box only serves my media, and does nothing else.

I tried that config....

While I haven't checked every folder for every MKV, the ones I checked for that weren't there before are now available and play. I noticed audio quality difference from the tweak I posted I tried. Is that due to the aBitrate="192" vs aBitrate="384" ?

The camcorder videos still look bad and are choppy. Would that be a transcoding limit?

Yes, you can set aBitrate="384".

No idea, probably a ffmpeg issue with timestamp.
