Showing "home movies" in the pictures section?

Hello Zip,

First of all:
Serviio rocks! after having it installed for some months now and after comparing it with some other options out there I'm settled with your program. Lightweight and works. I'm happier than a clam with it.

Now the suggestion:
I find it a problem to have the home made movies in the same lists as the normal movies as they appear mixed and there are plenty of them.
In the other hand, when using the TV as a photo album, I miss being able to see the home made videos of our holidays (being in the torture business let's make it properly and make an unforgettable night for all the friends and relatives).

I would ask for two ways of adding this functionality:
A) Set a complete new category with pictures and videos (that would be a new column in the console folders selection tab).
B) simply put a checkbox under the listctrl to activate the "add videos found in the pictures folders into the served media files".

Both options would allow the TV or receiver to show pictures and videos of the holidays together but A would be much more flexible and would allow a better control of the served media.

Nothing else, enjoy your holidays if you are still there and keep up the good work.

Most clients wont let you mix images and videos in one folder, they would just filter them out.

Re: Showing "home movies" in the pictures section?

Then, what about having a new category which would include only homemade films?

At least the videos of our holidays wouldn't terror us when looking for the last Disney movie...

We could have 4 categories:
    - Movies
    - Music
    - Pictures
    - Terrible-tortures-for-relatives

All the ones we have today plus the newly added with only homemade videos.

We could see the videos of our holidays in a separate folder than the normal movies. In our case we have >10 short videos per year added into the library, our parrot, going out with friends, holidays... and getting them into the same list than our normal movies make the library a mess. The other option is removing them from our DLNA server, but then we can't show/see those videos unless we go to the computer.

PS: I don't know if that new category should be a 4th category or a sub-category in the movies main category...

Again, thank you for your time and dedication to this wonderful project.

How about you add the root of your homemade movies as a share and disable metadata retrieval. They will then not appear in the Movies/Series categories, but you will be able to access them through the Folders category.

Re: Showing "home movies" in the pictures section?

Hello Zip,

Tried that and no luck, homemade films are still mixed with normal films.

See the Serviio Settings in this link:

The pictures and the videos are the same share (fotos) the one in blue and yellow.

Image

When I've forced the refresh and tried to see the results in our TV, our homemade videos appeared in the main films category.

:?

Have I done something wrong?

PS: I do have the homemade films in the same folder tan our photos as they are organized in folders (i.e. travel to Rome 2011).

Thank you for your time and help!

Re: Showing "home movies" in the pictures section?

Remove the share from your Serviio console and press save, this will remove all the metadata for this folder share from the Serviio database.

Then re-add the share again and press save again, dont tick "m"-metadata with this share
Sony Bravia 2010 52NX803 - Sony PS3 - Xbox 360
Serviio running on QNAP NAS 639 Pro - 1.6 Intel Dual Core - 2GB RAM and QNAP NAS 121 - 2Ghz ARM Marvell - 1GB RAM
Console using ServiiDroid for Android, ServiiMetro and ServiiWP for Windows Phone and WebUI for iOS

Re: Showing "home movies" in the pictures section?

Hello again Xmantium,

I've just tested it and it has not worked.

Steps followed:
1. remove that share.
2. press SAVE.
3. pressed update and show state until everything Green.
4. added that share again ensuring no metadata has been selected (it has blinked for a moment after selecting video files).
5. press SAVE.
6. update.
7. once I've seen a home movie has been processed I've gone to the TV to see what happened:
7.1. in the pictures folder only pictures were shown. (which given what Zip told me it's normal).
7.2. in the folders inside video section there is Access to the fodlers where all the pictures and home videos are stored.
7.3. navigating those folders show me the homemade videos which is great.
7.4. the problem appears to be the same tan before: I still can see the home movies mixed with the normal films.

:(

Any idea?

Thank you in advance!

Do you mean mixed with the normal films in the Movies category?

Re: Showing "home movies" in the pictures section?

Yes, the "home movies" ended mixed with the "normal films" in the movies category after doing all those steps.

What I've seen that was unexpected by me was that once I added again the category and selected the checkbox FILMS, the METADATA checkbox became selected automatically. After one second or so I deselected the checkbox (see step 4).

It is not the best to have videos and pictures separated, but as most of the players out there doesn't allow it, it would be good to be able to have some videos (homemade) only in the folder view and not in the movie categories.

Thank you Zip!

Re: Showing "home movies" in the pictures section?

I've tested it again and it failed for me...

Environment
Serviio 1.4
Windows 7

There are videos like AVI and MPG films that are shown into the movie categories.

Steps summary
1. remove that share.
2. press SAVE.
3. pressed update and show state until everything Green (it goes red again after going green).
4. added that share again.
4.1. select pictures checkbox.
4.2. select videos checkbox.
4.3. unselect metadata checkbox (this gets automatically selected once you select videos).
5. press SAVE.
6. update.
7. Wait all night long.
8. This morning I've went to the TV and found that those home videos without metadata still appear into the normal movies category.

Questions
Do you want me to put this post somewhere else? it is still in the feature requests section and it is not a feature request anymore.
Do you need any other kind of information? Can I help somehow?

Thank you in advance Zip!

Re: Showing "home movies" in the pictures section?

If you could create a small example folder with a few videos and images and share that, then post the log. But first enable detailed log.
