Re: config path to point to video files in Linux CLI

Hi Zip,
I have spent sometime today searching FAQ on remote console and "web console" no results found on web console, I don't think there is any simple instructions in FAQ on how to setup remote console using Linux CLI only, is there a file I get edit and just point to where my video file are, or am I missing the understanding of this, many thanks for your support.

Under the configuration part of the FAQ http://www.serviio.org/component/conten ... e?id=21#q2

You install the Serviio console on another machine which isn't headless and then edit the file to point the console at your headless server.

There is also a third part web console, as well as Android/Windows Phone apps, under the third party development section of the forum.

Re: config path to point to video files in Linux CLI

Download Serviio on your PC, and during the installation choose to only install the console. After installation, follow the FAQ instructions to point the console on your windows pc at the server running on your linux box.

Re: config path to point to video files in Linux CLI

I have installed the console only on windows laptop, but configuring it is not explained clearly in FAQ
below is the line from serviio.sh on the Linux box
JAVA_OPTS="-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -Djava.awt.headless=true -Dderby.system.home=$SERVIIO_HOME/library -Dserviio.home=$SERVIIO_HOME"

and below is the line from serviio-console.sh on the Linux box

JAVA_OPTS="-Dserviio.remoteHost=192.168.0.8 -Dserviio.home=$SERVIIO_CONSOLE_HOME -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true"

when I try and open the console on the windowsPC, I get the error message box, can not connect to serviio server,it does not seem to be running. existing..

I think something needs configureing on the windows side
or I could be completely wrong as I can't see the wood for the tree, please please help, I want to learn and pass on just like you do and support serviio, miniDLNA works no problem but Serviio is better

Re: config path to point to video files in Linux CLI

You don't need to change anything on the server side so leave the linux scripts/config files as they were.

On windows edit C:\Program Files\Serviio\bin\ServiioConsole.exe.vmoptions so that it contains

  Code:
-Dserviio.remoteHost=192.168.0.8

That will tell the console running on windows to connect to a server at that ip address.

Re: config path to point to video files in Linux CLI

It's not a file, it uses SQL database to keep all its config

Where is the database kept please is it something I can open with SQL and edit, or is the database locked, I am not a SQL expert but I know a bit just because my college who sits across from me at work is the database engineer, I take it the library is auto updated is this correct, Many Thanks for your help

Re: config path to point to video files in Linux CLI

Why do you need to change the DB? You can change everything using this REST API: http://docs.serviio.apiary.io/

Re: config path to point to video files in Linux CLI

What exactly are you trying to do? You can control everything by installing the console on your PC and pointing it at your server.

Re: config path to point to video files in Linux CLI

I was hoping I could just control everything using just one PC using CLI which is the PC running arch Linux and serviio, I think serviio is fanstastic because I am running it on a old intel P4 1.5 with 256RAM 1TB hard drive with all my videos on it, because its slow any OS with gui is not worth running even puppy is slow but using CLI it does the job
