[SOLVED] Transcoding support for SMP-N100

• Page 1 of 2 • 1, 2
I've got a Sony SMP-N100 and I just installed the latest version of Serviio on my linux box. Can't say what a pleasure it's been to find such a powerful yet simple DLNA server app. I was using mediatomb before and it was ok, but this just blows it away. The out of box Serviio config is working fine except for transcoding MKV files on the SMP-N100. My PS3 sees it fine and transcodes with no problems. The SMP-N100 runs a modified version of the PS3's XMB menu system so it's very similar to the PS3. It won't stream MKVs, only play them directly from USB. Can anyone help point me to some possible configuration changes I can try on Serviio to try and get another component to work properly and become fully supported by Serviio? Thanks

According to GetProtocolInfo result of your SMP-N100 device, this renderer only support AUDIO over DLNA. No Video, No Photo.

Re: Transcoding support for SMP-N100
I can confirm it currently streams video with no problems. I can stream a 1080P AVI encoded with Xvid and AC3 from my linux box running the latest version of serviio. When I go into Device Spy and drill down to the media player as requested, I don't see the exact line I'm directed to get the sink from. What I'm getting it from is:
urn:schemas-upnp-org:service:ConnectionManager:1
Then I go down to GetProtocolInfo(string Source, string Sink) and I get the below output in the sink field after hitting invoke.
http-get:*:audio/L16:DLNA.ORG_PN=LPCM;DLNA.ORG_FLAGS=9d700000000000000000000000000000,http-get:*:audio/mpeg:DLNA.ORG_PN=MP3;DLNA.ORG_FLAGS=9d700000000000000000000000000000,http-get:*:audio/x-ms-wma:DLNA.ORG_PN=WMABASE;DLNA.ORG_FLAGS=9d700000000000000000000000000000

Re: Transcoding support for SMP-N100
No, that didn't do anything unfortunately. The SMP-N100 just says "There is no playable file" in directories that I have my MKVs.
Re: Transcoding support for SMP-N100
Don't know if this helps or not, but I bumped the logging to DEBUG and while tailing the log file and browsing to a directory that contains MKVs I captured the below snippet.

That did it. I'm now able to successfully watch an MKV encoded with H.264 and AC3. Thanks!

You can try the solution found here viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1911. It might not work for your particular problem, but it did for me.

This should make the N100 play just about anything you can throw at it. Let me know if something you have doesn't work.

I can confirm that this works with the addition of two missing lines at the end:
(Without these, the profiles.xml file isn't valid, and the Serviio service fails to start).
After creating this profile and applying it to my SMP-N100, I was able to see and play all my .MP4 and .MKV files

Re: Transcoding support for SMP-N100
By the way that's transcoding everything to mpeg2 which is hardly ideal given that the player supports most formats natively.
What region player do you have? My Euro one plays everything if I edit the Sony BD Player profile to detect the string "Media Player" (there was a typo in Serviio 0.6's profiles.xml unfortunately so it won't auto detect - that was my fault
