playback not available

Hi.

I have some problem in understanding the principles of DLNA protocol. I have a Sony S9005B series tv. There are some video formats that are not playable on tv. I get "playback not available". I have tried different configurations with no success. I have also tried to play the video directly on tv by putting it on usb disk and plug it directly into the tv. The video was played and srt subtitles showed up. Now I am confused. At first I thought the "generic profile" would do the job as there is no transcoding and the video would play as it was played directly from usb disk. But no luck. Same error "playback not available" is showing up.

Can anybody explain me what I am missing here? Thanks in advance.

Re: playback not available

You can not compare DLNA and USB player of your Sony TV, they did not support same video format.
Could you provide information about this video file ? (see signature links)
Do you try with other sony profiles (ie : US ) ?
If its a mkv file, you can try to remux it with this tool: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=12136 (Remux tab, Action remux to the same format)

Re: playback not available

Hi.

Thanks for your prompted response.

No I have not tried the US profiles. I will try them and let you know about results. But I tried some fixes for Sony 2014 found on this forum.

There are not mkv files in question but avi's. Nevertheless here are the details of ffmpeg command which I suppose is irrelevant to avi files.

Re: playback not available

With avi, you can also try to remux it in same format with Servio WinHelp Tools.

Re: playback not available

Illico, thanks for the tips you gave me and your patience. I have managed to make it work. It turned out it was not Serviio but the lack of my knowledge about video streaming.

Thanks again.

Re: playback not available

Can you please suggest how you fixed it, as I get similar "playback not available" for certain content which I got from viewtopic.php?f=20&t=7963
