Resume Playback

A server based resume feature would be VERY nice indeed.

I've been using streaming services a lot over the last few weeks and it's extremely helpful that my account remembers exactly where I stopped series X season Y episode Z and allows me to resume viewing from this point a few days later or even from another device.

I think Serviio does keep track in its database when a file has been watched for the last time, doesn't it? Couldn't it keep track of how far into the file the last playback went and resume from there when the file is requested the next time?

If you or someone else would like to watch the same file from the beginning, you could still use the skip button.

Have a nice one

Re: Resume Playback

Yes, Serviio has the last playback position in the database, but it's up to the player to make use of it. My Samsung TV seems to recognize it, and every once in a while the Roku will continue. My Sony players would resume as long as the player wasn't turned off and nothing else was played. Not very useful!

I don't know if that's something that can be incorporated from the server side without causing issues somewhere else. Depends on the DLNA standard and what it supports I would imagine.

Re: Resume Playback

I think my Sony Bravias resume played items in random order as long as I have not left the DLNA app.

I'm not the DLNA expert, but from my understanding, the renderer requests an item from the server and should play whatever it gets back, if it is the first second of the item or the 22nd second of the 39th minute. What I mean is, does the renderer have to know that this is not the beginning of the movie? Maybe it has to, as there is a timeline displayed.

Tricky one.
