Serviio not detected by my TV

I installed Serviio 3 weeks ago on a new notebook (Windows 10) to watch media on my Samsung TV.

I use DLNA through my internet box (Orange Livebox) and Orange TV box decoder. The netbook is connecting to the local network via Wifi and the other devices via ethernet.

It worked fine for 2 weeks but it no longer works since last sunday : Serviio is no longer detected by the TV decoder. Since then, I tried everything including uninstalling then reinstalling Serviio.

I use a VPN (NordVPN). If I disable it, no change.

I tried several times to stop the service (services.msc,) then restart it, no change

A library "Serviio + the name of my notebbok" was added in Windows Media Player, but it is empty too

Thanks for your help.

Re: Serviio not detected by my TV

It's more than likely related to a recent Windows update. Microsoft has a habit of resetting the firewall settings with an update. On my computers, I simply disable the firewall because I'm comfortable with the security of my network. But I can understand that not everyone has that comfort level.

As a test, turn the firewall off temporally. If Serviio is now visible, then you've identified the problem. I forget exactly which port(s) must be opened for Serviio, but someone here can probably answer that.

Re: Serviio not detected by my TV

Thanks

I temporarily disabled Defender and Serviio is still not visible. My problem then seems to be due to something else.

Re: Serviio not detected by my TV

Just a note, Windows Media Player will show the Serviio source, but it won't show content. So don't worry that it doesn't show anything there.

Since WMP does show Serviio, that means the Serviio service is working correctly. If you have Serviio Pro, or if you are still within the 15 day test period, see if MediaBrowser is showing up and playing your media. All that shows Serviio working right.

So, where's the network issue? When you have a combination of wireless and wired settings, sometimes there are security settings in the router that blocks wireless devices from seeing anything on the network. So it's worth checking the wireless settings in the router. And I'm still suspicious of the VPN, too. :D

I used Serviio without any problem for 6 months with my previous notebook

With the current notebook, which I bought 20 days ago, it worked till last sunday :

- My router settings didn't change for years, so I do not think there might be a problem on that side
- When I disable VPN, Serviio is still not detected on my TV
- WMP is detected on my TV, Serviio isn't
- I just started my old notebook : My TV sees Serviio on that old notebook (same rooter and local network of course). VPN is working on that old notebook too.

Re: Serviio not detected by my TV

OK, that narrows the issue to be specifically the new notebook. And since Windows Media Services is visible on the TV but Serviio is not (both on the same computer, right?), then something is blocking Serviio somewhere on that computer. First, I'd look at the Serviio log to ensure it's running properly. Open MediaBrowser and see if everything shows up as expected (assuming you have Serviio Pro or are within the 15 day demo period). Since it's a notebook, you probably have a wired and wireless connection. Serviio might have bound itself to the one you aren't using. You can check that in the Serviio console at the bottom of the Status page. It's probably set to Auto and you might need to manually tell it which network card to use.

Can you connect to the Serviio console from a different computer? That would indicate if Serviio is visible on the network as well. We need to determine if Serviio can be seen from any computer other than the one it's installed on.

Yes on same computer. I now disabled network discovery and logicallay no longer see VMP on that computer. I disabled it because it is disabled on the old computer working fine with Serviio.

What Mediabrowser are you talking about ? How do I get a log ?
Serviio server status is running
Bound IP address is set on "Automatically detected". If I choose the other IPs in the liste, no change
- one is VPN Tunnel
- one is the IP address of my computer and my Wifi card is mentionned

Yes, this is what I previously wrote :

Re: Serviio not detected by my TV

I checked that link https://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=detail_logging and got a debug log.

241 lines. Do I post it here ?

Thanks

Re: Serviio not detected by my TV

You didn't need to switch to debug logging yet, as the basic log might have contained enough info. But since you did, sure go ahead and post it here. However, 241 lines sounds awfully small for a debug log. I'm suspicious if Serviio is running properly. A debug log usually exceeds 1000 lines very quickly after startup.

MediaBrowser is something included with Serviio Pro (the paid version) and is enabled as a trial for the first 15 days after installation. You access it on the same computer using http://localhost:23424/MediaBrowser. On a different computer, substitute the word "localhost" with either the name or the IP address of the Serviio computer.

Yes, you should not be using the VPN network connection. I understand changing the setting didn't alter anything, but Serviio has to be on your actual local network connection. I seem to recall someone else having issues due to a VPN, even when it was "off". I believe that once some settings were changed in the VPN to allow local access to Serviio it began working. But I have zero experience with software based VPNs, so can't offer any guidance on how/what to whitelist in the VPN settings.

Re: Serviio not detected by my TV

Only 241 lines because I started Serviio from "outside", via services.msc. Libraries files are not listed then.

I used Serviio for more than 6 months without any problem, while using a VPN. The VPN settings are same on this new notebook as on the old one with which I used Serviio for more than 6 months.

Re: Serviio not detected by my TV

I think I found out.

daej wrote:Bound IP address is set on "Automatically detected". If I choose the other IPs in the list, no change
- one is VPN Tunnel
- one is the IP address of my computer and my Wifi card is mentionned

On the older notebook, Bound IP address is also set on "Automatically detected"

If on the new notebook, I set it on the IP address of this new notebook, my TV can see Serviio. I already tried earlier ("If I choose the other IPs in the list, no change") and it did not work, now it does. May be I did something wrong at that time, like not restarting the server ???

Thnaks again for your help, I just hope this time will be the good one.

Re: Serviio not detected by my TV

Perhaps you didn't click the save button the first time. But whatever the reason, I'm glad you resolved it. :D
