Samsung E series Blu-Ray Player

I have just ordered a Samsung BD E5500 player to replace my Popcorn A110 (which has problems playing UK Freeview HD recordings) attached to our lounge non Smart Samsung TV

I am happily using Serviio to stream to our bedroom smart Sony Bravia TV and want to avoid using the Samsung streaming software.

Can you confirm that Serviio and the new E series are compataible.

Thanks

Re: Samsung E series Blu-Ray Player no sound

I have now received the player and when I try to playback Freeview HD recordings with AAC sound I get the following message "Audio codec not supported", the picture is fine but no sound.

The same files stream ok to my bedroom Sony tv without any problems.

Is there a solution to this problem.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Samsung E series Blu-Ray Player

Did you select the right profile (c/d series)? if yes post FFmpeg -i of the file.

Re: Samsung E series Blu-Ray Player

Yes I used the C/d profile.

I found that if I convert the file from a TS to a mp4 it plays ok , apparently the player does not recognise AAC -h when it is in a TS container.

Also Serviio detects the player as an" unrecognised device " and Windows media player as an unknown device.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Samsung E series Blu-Ray Player

I am also running into issues streaming MKV files with an E-Series, the 5900. I've tried Allshare, Tversity, Serviio, nothing works, so I know it's not specifically a software issue but more likely a configuration issue. I even have trouble with these going from a USB stick, so I'm not sure what's wrong here.

However, that being said, I'm brand new to Serviio so I'm not quite sure how to get the debug logs, etc. I'd be more than happy to post logs to help determine where, but I'm not sure how to edit a c/d profile, nor post an "ffmpeg -i".

I can, however, post a MediaInfo of one of the many files I've tried:

Re: Samsung E series Blu-Ray Player

if AllShare wont play it natively then it's down to the file encoding.

Ok, so what does that mean, since it won't play about 99% of my mkv files, is there a way around that?

Re: Samsung E series Blu-Ray Player

I have managed to play back some MKv's using All Share but found that the Samsung sofware was screwing up my shared drive and as a result my Popcorn could not see it therefore I removed All share from my PC.

It would be very useful if someone with the appropriate knowledge could write a script for the Eseries that allowed us to playback MKV's and TS files with AAC sound tracks.

Re: Samsung E series Blu-Ray Player

Just noticed that the MKV MediaInfo you posted is High-10 profile, which is probably the problem. ATM Serviio doesn't recognize this profile and thus cannot trigger transcoding just for that.

Ah, that seems to be the problem across the board for all my media server items (PS3 Media Server, TVErsity, etc.), so I guess the question is, how far away is this update for Serviio? (Not trying to rush, I know you work hard on this, just curious.)

Zip added the fix last night so it will be include in 1.0 which is being beta tested at the moment. I guess the eta is around about a month +/- a few weeks.

Re: Samsung E series Blu-Ray Player

Hi,
since last Week i own a Samsung BD-E5300. After fiddling with that darn Thing, my Conclusion: It´s crap, leave it were it is.
1. Out of the Box, put it on my LG47LK950S (crap also) and got no Picture and crackling Audio.
Put it on my old Panasonic Plasma and get a Picture in 720P. The Panasonic is only HD so its ok.

Aftermath 1: On the LG i only get a max.Res. of 1080i. If i switch the E5300 to 1080p the Picture is gone. And yes, its the E5300 not the LG(in this case) that caused the Problems. My Popcorn Hour and my Brothers BD(Phillips) run with 1080p fine on the LG.

2. Modded the Samsung C/D Profile and added the "E" in Detection. Now the E5300 shows up in Servio (Console) but not with green Dot, it s orange or so.
The E5300 played any Videofiles i tryed exept(of course) *.ts, *.flv.
The E5300 wont play any Onlinestreams. No matter if its RSS or Livestream. These are working(sort off) on the LG TV.

Aftermath 2: Samsung isn´t able to implement a correct DLNA. They use this AllShare manure. For a Mac User a kickass.

Maybe someday you could buy Products from Southkorea that works out of the Box,and as promised.

Re: Samsung E series Blu-Ray Player

Was having the same issues with .mkv files not playing on my Samsung BD-E5900 so I installed the proprietary AllShare PC S/W and voila I can play every single file now. 8-)
