B-series - no sound with Serviio 1.2 from DTS-audio .mkv

Hello everyone, I have been using Serviio since 0.6.1 and recently hit an unexpected issue:

PROBLEM: with Serviio 1.2 and Samsung B-series TV, there is no audio from ANY .mkv file with DTS audio track.
- Profile is correctly set in Serviio to B-series (just like it was done before)
- Video playback is fine, no issues.
- AC3 .mkv are fine too.
- To re-iterate: the problem is not limited to any particular file
- D-series TV connected to the same Serviio server, play all everything with sound, no issues

REGRESSION TESTING DONE:
- uninstall Serviio, Java, clean with CCleaner
- installed the latest Java
- reinstalled Serviio 1.2 - same issue persists

Installed Serviio 1.2 on another PC - same issue with DTS files
Rolled back to 1.0.1 - NO PROBLEMS with DTS sound

Any ideas how to fix it?

ATTEMPTED FIX:
- copied B-series portion from old profiles.xml into the new (1.2) profile (edited part which says DO NOT EDIT )
- After reboot - error message: Cannot connect to Serviio server, exiting

So hacking did not work. I am restoring to the original profiles.xml

What can I do to keep Serviio 1.2 and be able to use both TVs? thanks...

Please see attachment - I enabled the debug mode, but I do not see anything obvious (the log is huge, so I trimmed down to what I think is applicable to the specific file).

It sends it transcoded. Is it just this file or do you have any other MKV/h264/DTS to test?

I tried a similar file on my C series with the B profile and it played it. Can you try to play the file on your D series with B profile?

the no DTS audio issue is not specific to a particular MKV - I tried randomly few, the same result.

I tried "B" profile on "D" TV with somewhat mixed results: audio is there (the TV natively can play DTS anyway), but the FF does not work.

I tried to copy B-portion of old profile at the very end of the new profile (without changing anything else in the original profile) - the same error message about Serviio not running....

Restored back to the original profiles.

Any other suggestions?

Could you post detailed log of playing the file with 1.1 and then 1.2 - use the B profile distributed with each version.

Also, first try to copy FFmpeg from 1.1 to your 1.2 installation and try to play it then.

Miracle! I swapped the ffmpeg and my old TV played DTS movie with sound!!!

I am not able to tell the exact version comparison (right click -> properties); the working binary comes from Serviio 1.0.1 install

Next step will be to follow your guide to update ffmpeg - if there is anything newer.

UPDATE: FFmpeg Build Version: git-17c1881 (2013-03-19), 64bit version - works for "D" series, completely breaks for "B" - "not supported file format".

I am rolling back to the FFmpeg version included in 1.0.1 (and transplanted into 1.2)

the same problem here (Samsung UE55B7000) - Serviio 1.2 and 1.2.1 DTS sound not working (i.e. video OK with no sound) - I reverted back to 1.1 which works fine.
It is a very serious issues - the DTS transcoding is the main reason I use Serviio w/o it well...

I hope it gets fixed soon otherwise no upgrade for Samsung B series users possible.

It looks like FFmpeg issue, so either revert to FFmpeg from 1.1, or keep trying the newest FFmpeg builds

Hi,
I'm writing to confirm that i just solved the ffmpeg issue by replacing the file ffmpeg.exe in ..\Program Files\Serviio\lib with the same file you can find by installing a old serviio release like the 1.0.1 for my UE40B7000

Using Google i downloaded it from http://www.downloadcrew.com/article/27941-serviio and I installed it.
in the dir ..\Program Files\Serviio\lib I copied the old ffmpeg.exe and pasted it away.
I installed serviio 1.2.1 over the same dir then i renamed the ffmpeg.exe in the ..\Serviio\lib directory to ffmpeg.exe.new
I moved the old ffmpeg.exe from the away location to its original dir.
Reboot and then it works.

Unfortunately, i have no chance to solve the same problem if i want the console to run from my Synology NAS DS212j.
Maybe Patters can have a look at it and include an exception for Samsung B series in his package.

In the meantime i'll keep my pc up for the transcoding.

Did you try the latest Zeranoe build?

I tried to read around this forum and in http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com but seems im not able to find a tip about how to deal with it and with my synology.
I've also read this thread viewtopic.php?f=5&t=9594 and im confident that mbarnig's ticket will get it work in next ffmpeg release.
