FF/REW Not available

Hi All,

had a quick look to see if this has been covered before, but seems to be mainly .mkv issues.

I have just installed Serviio 1.2. My Samsung DVD player recognises it on my network etc. Can browse folders and start movies streaming in mp4/wmv etc. Every time I press FF or REW on the remote is says "Not Available". Can do this OK on the same movies on the PC using media player, so file isn't broken.

Has the noob forgotten to turn something on in the console?

BTW: Blu-ray player is BD-D6500 connected to PC via WD Livewire. Don't have problems streaming media from internet using the player.

Re: FF/REW Not available

What buttons exactly do you mean by FF and REW? Are you trying to press "<<" and ">>" buttons on your remote?

In a typical Samsung device, when you are playing DLNA content, the "Forward" and "Rewind" functions are assigned to the "Left" and "Right" buttons on the cross-shaped rocker on the remote. These are the buttons your are supposed to use as FF and REW, not the normal "<<" and ">>" buttons.

I don't know why they did it that way, but they did.

Thanks AndreyT,

I will check this out tomorrow and post back.

It does seem odd that they didn't map the correct remote buttons to the relevant function. Whose issue is that though? Samsung or DNLA?

Re: FF/REW Not available

Hi AndreyT,

Tried your suggestion of using Arrow Keys instead of <<>>. These seem to be mapped to a "Jump" feature rather than FF/REW. Each press causes the movie to advance around 10-15 seconds.

Nothing I have tried pressing seems to make the unit stay in FF or REW, so I am having to constantly press them to keep edging forward or back.

Is there no proper FF or REW with DLNA/Samsung combination?

Yes, they jump by 10-15 sec if you simply "blip" such button. If you press and hold the button down, it will continue to jump by greater intervals as long as you keep pressing it. You will see the '>' symbol at the top left corner of the screen replaced by '>>' and '>>>' symbols to indicate greater jump stepping. Once you release the button, the player will resume normal playback (it usually takes it a second or two to start playing normally after you release the button.)

I know that this is not perfect, but that is as good as it gets with dong FF and REW for DLNA content in Samsung players. They don't offer any "smooth" FF and REW functionality.
