Samsung H Series Blue Ray Player MP4 problem

Just bought a Samsung BD-H5100 and installed the latest Serviio server on my Win 7 computer. Did try another server first but it could not play subtitles so am trying Serviio. I like it much better but am having problems playing most of my videos which are MP4s. I can play them and the subtitles work but I cannot pause or jump forward or backward in the file without getting a message that that function is unavailable. I checked with other files structures and AVI and MKV both work fine. It is just the MP4 files I am having a problem with and they make up 95% of my video library. The Samsung has downloaded it's latest update and if I put the files on a USB drive and play them from there I can pause and forward and reverse with no problem. Seems the problem is with Serviio but being a newbie to DNLA I'm not sure what the fix is. I am a programmer but haven't familiarized myself yet with Serviio's Profile.xml but am a quick study.

I bought the Samsung to replace my old Seagate Theater box. The Seagate did not need DNLA software to access the disks on my computer but it is having major problems with sound fluctuations and bringing up the menu causes it to shut off hence the update. I don't really play Blue Ray disks but the Samsung's price was right and it had ethernet access. Will be happy if I can get this problem worked out.

I didn't see another topic covering this problem so would appreciate any help.

try to turn off transcoding.

What is the subtitles setting you're using? Don't enable Burned-in subtitles, Samsung doesn't need that

Re: Samsung H Series Blue Ray Player MP4 problem

Turned off transcoding. No difference.

All three subtitle functions were on. Turned off all but the first. When I did this, I could pause the mp4 but I had no subtitles. They are not burned in and are external srt files with the same name as the video and in the same directory. I cold not fast forward or rewind.

I re-enabled transcoding with no change.

It looks like when I turn on Enable Burned in Subtitles the pause no longer works but with it off, I can't see the subtitles. No other setting change seems to affect this.

I did play one MP4 last week that everything worked. I tried to find it again and can't remember what it was but it did have subtitles and allowed my to pause. I don't remember trying fast forward and reverse.

As an experiment I turned all the subtitle functions back on including the one for burned in subtitles and I renamed the subtitle file so it no longer had thew srt extension. The mp4 would pause but of course it no longer had subtitles. I just wanted to make sure the file did not any subtitles burned into it and that the existence of an srt file seems to cause the problem. Why it will not read the srt without the burned in function enabled seems to be a problem as an external subtitle file is not burned in.

I am also not able to play many older avi files at all. The ones I can are only an hour but any movie I have in that format says it is unsupported. The same subtitle and pause is affecting those avi files that do play. I just checked the one mkv file I have that did work and it has the same problem. I have no idea what is going on.
